Betting the Dallas Cowboys (2024 Stats: 7-10 SU, 7-10 ATS, 11-6 o/u)

Coming off of a disappointing 2024 season, it was anything but a quiet offseason in Jerry’s World. After a long contract deliberation between the Cowboys front office and Michah Parsons culminated in him officially requesting a trade, Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones kindly obliged, sending him to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for Kenny Clark and two first round picks.

With their superstar edge-rusher gone and their franchise quarterback coming off a torn hamstring, the Cowboys are worse for wear. However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom in Dallas as they added some notable talents, including a former round pick wide receiver, George Pickens, as well as some added depth to their defence and running back room.

Even with the few upgrades made to their roster, the Cowboys are still far worse off than they were a season ago.

Don’t expect to see much from the Cowboys in 2025 as they are primed to finish at the bottom of the NFC East, sporting a mediocre roster that is sure to spark the ire of all Cowboys fans, as this will be yet another season to forget for ‘dem boys.

Betting the Philadelphia Eagles (2024 Stats: 14-3 SU, 11-6 ATS, 7-10 o/u)

The reigning, defending Super Bowl Champions, the Eagles are once again primed for a massive regular season campaign. While they weren’t able to return the entirety of their championship roster, the Eagles still bolster one of the most intimidating offences in the NFL, as well as a serviceable defence chock-full of playmakers.

After laying the smackdown on the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the Eagles have proven to the NFL world that they’re just getting started. With All-Pro running back Saquon Barkley eclipsing 2000 rushing yards last season, the superstar rusher is set for another phenomenal season as he feeds off the dynamic backfield tandem created between himself and quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Expect to see plenty of nasty beatdowns handed out by the Eagles in 2025 as they utilize their nearly unstoppable run game to generate yards, while still having big-play ability thanks to their spectacular wide receiver room. Undoubtedly in play for a return to the Super Bowl, the Eagles may still be the team to beat in the NFC in 2025.

Key Injuries

Heading into Week 1, there aren’t too many injuries to be concerned about for either team competing on Thursday Night Football.

For the Cowboys, defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey is listed as questionable to compete. Perrion is currently the only member of the Cowboys roster who is on the injury report that is not already on the Injured Reserve. One key member of the Cowboys defence that is featured on the IR currently is linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who broke out for the Cowboys last season. He is currently listed on the IR due to an ACL injury.

Similarly, for the Eagles, they only have one player featured on their injury report ahead of their season opener with the Cowboys outside of the IR. Back-up quarterback, Tanner McKee is questionable to play in this contest due to a thumb injury. A key member of the Eagles lineup that is currently on the PUP list is linebacker Nakobe Dean who is currently out due to a knee injury.

  • Making his first start since tearing his hamstring in the 2024 season, Dak Prescott will look to make a statement in his return to the gridiron. Having found great statistical success against the Eagles in the past, Prescott has passed for Over 249.5 passing yards in four-straight games, and five of his last six starts against the Eagles.
  • Relying on their passing attack to generate offence, expect a low rushing yard total for newly-acquired running back Javonte Williams in this season opener. His line is set at just 39.5 yards, but facing an Eagles defence that allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards against per game a season ago, coupled with the Cowboys 59.6% lean on the passing game, look for touches to come few and far between for Williams as he misses this total. Also worth noting, in 17 games played for the Denver Broncos in 2024, Williams only amassed Over 39.5 rushing yards six times (35.29% hit-rate).
  • Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has scored a touchdown (rushing) in two of his last three games played against the Cowboys. He is currently listed at -150 to enter the end zone on Thursday Night Football. Additionally, Hurts has thrown for Over 1.5 passing touchdowns in three of his last four head-to-head matchups with the Cowboys. He is currently priced at +100 to hit this mark.
  • While he has been a top wide receiver in the NFL for several seasons, Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has struggled against the Cowboys. Going toe-to-toe with elite corners in Daron Bland and Trevon Diggs, Brown will have to work extra hard to create space. His reception total line is currently set at 5.5, a mark he failed to exceed in both matchups with the Cowboys in 2024.

Cowboys vs. Eagles Predictions

  • Heading into this primetime matchup, hammer the Eagles to demolish the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. In their two meetings from last season, the Eagles dominated the Cowboys from start to finish, winning 34-6 and 41-7 in head-to-head play. With the Cowboys on the decline, and the Eagles on the rise, expect to see a one-sided butt-whooping as the Eagles kickoff the 2025 season with a lopsided final score, earning bettors an easy win on their bet slips as they back the Eagles -8 over the Cowboys.
  • In what could be a potentially tricky final score to predict, I like the Over on Thursday Night Football between the Cowboys vs. Eagles. With the line set at a fairly steep 47.5 points, I like the idea of a high-scoring affair between these two teams. With the Eagles positioned to score at will, expect the Cowboys to take plenty of deep shots downfield, playing aggressively in hopes of staying within striking distance of the lead. In their two games played from last season, Over 47.5 points were scored once, and with Dak Prescott set to be under center for the Cowboys, they should be able to manage at least two scores on the average Eagles D. Hammer the Cowboys vs. Eagles to finish Over 47.5 points and watch your bankroll rise alongside the scoreboard on with the latest Thursday Night Football odds.
