The second leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs stops in Maryland at Caves Valley Golf Club this week with a narrowed field of the top 50 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings.
Justin Rose prevailed in last week’s St. Jude Championship to rise to fourth in the FedEx Cup standings, but World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has already secured the top spot in the standings with 5,456 points, well ahead of Rory McIlroy’s 3,444 points in second. That means Scheffler has already earned a cool $5 million for being the leader in points through two playoff events.
The winner of next week’s Tour Championship will take home a lucrative $10-million prize. Only the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings will qualify for the event.

Canadians in the field
- Corey Conners (16th in FedEx Cup standings): +5000. Conners should have no problem qualifying for the Tour Championship next week due to his strong standing in the FedEx Cup rankings, so he won’t have the pressure of having to post an elite score this week. He hasn’t won on tour yet this year, but he has posted six top-10 results, including at the recent British Open.
- Nick Taylor (22nd in FedEx Cup standings): +11000. Taylor has had a fine season to this point, notching a win at the Sony Open and two other top-10 results. He finished a disappointing T44 at last week’s St. Jude Championship.
- Taylor Pendrith (35th in FedEx Cup standings): +6600. Pendrith needs a strong result in this tournament in order to crack the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings and qualify for next week’s Tour Championship. He finished T28 last week and hasn’t finished inside the top 25 in his last three events.

Three golfers to back
- Patrick Cantlay (+2000): Cantlay is a two-time winner of this event, including at Caves Valley in 2021. Overall, it’s been a disappointing season for the 33-year-old American, who has failed to win a tournament while posting four top-10 results, but he’s picked up the pace recently, finishing inside the top 12 in three of his last six events, including a T9 finish at last week’s St. Jude Championship. Cantlay ranks 10th on Tour in total strokes gained and eighth in strokes gained approach to green while also ranking a very solid 36th in putting average. He’ll also be motivated to post a strong result this week in order to secure his spot for next week’s Tour Championship, as he sits 19th in the FedEx Cup standings. Another win at the BMW could salvage an otherwise poor season for Cantlay.
- Russell Henley (+3300): Nobody is playing more consistently than Henley right now. He had posted four straight top-10 finishes prior to last week’s respectable T17 result at the St. Jude Championship, including a pair of strong T10 finishes at the last two majors, the U.S. Open and the British Open. With one win and nine top-10 results on his resume this season, Henley has rocketed to No. 5 in the World Golf Rankings after ending 2024 at No. 17. The Georgia native ranks in the upper echelon of most statistical categories on Tour aside from driving distance (165th on Tour).
- Harry Hall (+5000): This is a massive week for the surging Hall, who is 45th in the FedEx Cup standings and making a late case to be a captain’s pick for Team Europe at next month’s Ryder Cup. The English golfer has finished no worse than T24 over his last 10 events, posting a pair of top-10 finishes in that span, thanks to his spectacular putting ability. He ranks first on Tour in putting strokes gained, putting average, and putts per round, while also ranking sixth in scrambling. His putting prowess alone makes him a good bet at 50-1 odds to win outright, but perhaps a more modest bet would be to back him at +280 odds to finish in the top 10.
