Methodology
To identify each state’s most likely favorite Christmas song, we analyzed four years of Google Keyword Planner search volume data for a curated list of popular holiday tracks. Only organic search queries were included.
For every state, we summed total searches across all songs, then calculated the percentage of interest for each individual track to determine implied probability.
This approach standardizes results across states of different sizes and allows us to compare relative popularity rather than raw search volume.
The song (or songs) with the highest percentage or probability in each state was identified as the favorite. In cases where multiple songs shared the top percentage, all were counted as tied favorites.
Data cleaning steps included removing duplicates, validating numeric search values, and checking for completeness and consistency across all states.
