CFL Week 6 Odds, Picks: Kenny Lawler A TD Machine For Hamilton

Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Kenny Lawler (89) goes to catch a pass during warm up before a game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Hamilton Stadium.

We’re now into the dog days of summer with five weeks of CFL football already in the books.

Week 6 will only feature three games as several teams enjoy a bye week, but all three matchups are intriguing from a betting perspective.

The undefeated Saskatchewan Roughriders will kick things off on Friday when they host the surprising 3-1 Calgary Stampeders, who were projected to be the worst team in the league by oddsmakers at the onset of the season. Saskatchewan is now the Grey Cup favourite with +275 odds at bet365 after a perfect 4-0 start to the campaign.

On Saturday, the Ottawa Redblacks will visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. And on Sunday, the Edmonton Elks will host the BC Lions.

Here’s a look at the Grey Cup outright odds heading into Week 6:

Three CFL Week 6 picks

  • Kenny Lawler anytime TD: -130 @ Sports Interaction. Lawler has developed instant chemistry with Hamilton quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, hauling in five touchdown receptions in his first four games with the Tiger-Cats to lead the CFL. He’s hauled in at least one TD pass in three of those four contests and is coming off a week against Toronto when he found the end zone three times on a career-high 207 receiving yards. The veteran wideout is averaging an impressive 9.5 targets per game, and he should have ample opportunity to continue catching balls at a high rate against a Redblacks team allowing an average of 366.4 yards per game through the air (sixth-most in the CFL). The game total of 54.5 for this game is the highest on the board this week, so oddsmakers are expecting plenty of scoring in this East Division clash.
  • Lions team total over 27.5 points: -110 @ Bet99. Quarterback Nathan Rourke is healthy again, and now he and the Lions will have the chance to feast on an Elks defence that ranks last in the league in points allowed per game (34.5) and yards allowed per play (7.65). BC also leads the league in offensive yards per game at 388.2, further making our case to back a big game for the Lions offensively this weekend. BC put up 31 points on Edmonton back in Week 1, and we should see it eclipse that 30-point plateau again.
  • Roughriders -4.5 game spread: -115 @ Sports Interaction. Roughriders starting quarterback Trevor Harris has been a full participant at practice this week, suggesting he’s ready to return from a head injury he sustained in Week 3 against Toronto. That’s good news for the undefeated Riders (4-0), who will host the overachieving Stampeders, who many oddsmakers had pegged to win only around 6.5 games this year. Calgary has relied heavily on the run game early this season, averaging 129.8 rushing yards per game to rank second in the CFL, but Saskatchewan’s defence has been stout against the run, holding the opposition to just 66.5 yards per game, by far the best mark in the league. The Roughriders also lead the league in rushing yards per game (138.5), led by wrecking ball AJ Ouellette, who leads the CFL with 347 total yards on the ground. This spread is as high as Riders -5.5 at some online sportsbooks, so jump on it now before it continues to push towards the key number of -7.
