France Set To Complete 2022 Six Nations Grand Slam

France set to complete 2022 Six Nations Grand Slam

The Six Nations competition is not even halfway through yet, but already it looks a good bet for France to complete the 2022 Six Nations Grand Slam

The French are two from two, and with three fixtures left in the betting odds, they are heavy odds-on favorites to win the 2022 Six Nations outright.

They’ve just beaten Ireland in Paris, and the Irish were the side expected by the bookmakers to give Les Bleus the most problems.

France’s 30-24 win over Andy Farrell’s Ireland was in Week 2 of the competition. In Week 1, France beat Italy 37-10.

Up next for the French are back to back away days in Scotland and Wales before what could be the championship decider at home to England in Week 5 of the tournament.

Even though the French could be going for the Grand Slam that weekend, they could still find themselves in the position where if they lost the game against England, not only would they miss out on the Grand Slam, they might even miss out on the Six Nations title as well.

This is one of the reasons the Six Nations is such an exciting competition!

What Is The Six Nations Grand Slam?

For anybody who only loosely follows rugby and hears all the phrases, but doesn’t fully understand what they are, here is our explanation of what the Grand Slam is in the Six Nations.

I’m sure you’ve worked out by now that there are six teams in the Six Nations, they are Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, France, and Italy.

In this competition, all the countries only play against each other once. Home and away fixtures are rotated annually, so if France plays England in Paris this year, it will be England v France in London next year.

For winning a match a team gets 4 points, and they get a bonus point for scoring four tries. At the end of the competition, the team with the most points wins the Six Nations.

If a team goes through the competition winning all five of their matches, they have completed the Grand Slam, and that is what we’re talking about with France here.

To complete the Grand Slam is not impossible, it’s happened on many occasions. It was last completed by Wales in 2019, Ireland in 2018, England in 2016, and Wales in 2012.

The last time France completed the Grand Slam was in 2010. Which is also the last time they won the Six Nations.

It usually helps when you have home matches against your main rivals, and that’s exactly where France is this year.

They have home matches against their two main rivals, Ireland and England, and Fabien Galthie’s team is the strongest they’ve been for 10 years plus. It’s their time, surely!!

2022 Six Nations France Grand Slam Betting

As things stand, all the other teams in the competition have now lost a match. Meaning only France can complete the Grand Slam.

In betting, No Grand Slam is the favorite, meaning the sportsbooks think the French will slip up in one of their three remaining matches. France’s Rugby odds to achieve the Grand Slam are 2.50.

I know it will be difficult, but I think this is a good value bet.

The French are building towards the 2023 Rugby World Cup, which they are hosting. Not winning this year’s Six Nations would be a massive setback for them.

The two matches in Scotland and Wales are more than winnable, and I struggle to see England upsetting the French in Paris.

All this makes France completing the 2022 Six Nations Grand Slam a good bet for me.

Now, let’s take a look at the matches standing in between France and the Grand Slam.

Scotland v France Picks

First up is Scotland at Murrayfield. I did have the Scots down as having a chance to win the Six Nations this year.

Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t capitalize on their opening day win over England and lost to Wales in Week 2.

  • Where; Murrayfield Edinburgh, Stadium, Scotland
  • When; Saturday, February 26th, 2022
  • Time; 9.15 am ET

That defeat typified Scotland. They can beat anybody on their day, but they don’t seem able to string a run of results together.

The bookmakers make France 1.40 to win this match. I think it may be France’s toughest remaining fixture, but I expect them to come through and win.

Wales v France Picks

In the latest 2023 Rugby World Cup Odds, France is 3.50 joint-favorites alongside New Zealand.

If they are serious contenders to win the world cup, then beating a below full-strength Wales in Cardiff is a must!

  • Where; Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, Wales
  • When; Friday, March 11th, 2022
  • Time; 3 pm ET

I don’t see Wales causing the French any problems, and I take France to win on the handicap market here.

France v England Picks

The final piece of the jigsaw, England in Paris!

How much would the French love to win the Six Nations and complete the Grand Slam by beating England in Paris on the final weekend of the competition?

  • Where; Stade de France, Paris, France
  • When; Saturday, March 19th, 2022
  • Time; 3 pm ET

England will also relish the chance to be the party poopers.

Will England upset the odds? Possibly, but I don’t think they will.

I expect France to beat England and complete the Grand Slam.
