Tonight we get to see the match we’ve all been waiting for in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics when Canada takes on the USA in the men’s Ice Hockey competition. Let’s have a look at the betting predictions.
We may not have all of the NHL superstars in Beijing, but any clash between Canada and the USA on an ice rink is enough to capture the imagination of both nations.
And even given the lack of NHL players, this is still an Olympic Games, and neither nation will want to take a backward step, or lose bragging rights!
Both these great Ice Hockey nations were drawn in Group A, and with only the winners of the group guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals, neither side can afford any slip-ups.
The Canadian side was one of the pre-competition favorites with the best online sports betting sites. The loss of their NHL contingent completely changed the landscape and saw Team Canada’s odds plummet from 1.80 favorites to 7.00 fourth favorites.
It’s fair to say that losing the NHL players didn’t help tonight’s opponents either. Team USA’s odds went all the way out to a massive 15.00 on the back of the NHL’s announcement.

2022 Olympics Men’s Ice Hockey Betting Odds
All the teams have now played their first matches. There were no major surprises, and the latest betting is as you were. New favorites, the ROC, won a tight match against unfancied Switzerland.
The Russians didn’t exactly convince, but they came through a sticky match nonetheless. The adage about not peaking too early springs to mind, but the Russian’s below-par performance will have encouraged the Canadians and the other medal hopefuls.

Of those medal hopefuls, pre-tournament second favorites, Finland, started with an impressive 6-2 win over Slovakia. The other fancied team, Sweden, had to hold on a bit against Latvia to finish 3-2 winners.
All-in-all, Team Canada wouldn’t have seen anything to unduly worry them from the opening round of fixtures!
Team Canada v Team the USA; When and Where?
Right, the match is listed as Saturday 12th February, but given the time differences it kicks off late at night on Friday, Eastern Time.
So, depending on whether or not you’re a night owl, it’s good or bad news. If you’re the sort of person who loves watching Ice Hockey with a beer in hand, 11.10 pm on Friday is perfect. While on the flip side, if you like going to bed early, it’s not the greatest piece of scheduling.
- Match – Canada v USA – Preliminary Round – Group A, Game 11
- Where – National Indoor Stadium, Chaoyang, Beijing, China
- When – Friday, February 11th, 2022 Time – 11.10pm ET
Either way, it’s not the end of the world. It’s not like it’s at 3 am!
This will be the second match both sides play in Group A. Both won their respective opening group matches with ease, which we will look at now.
The Canadians opened up with a 5-1 routine win over Germany.
The tie was effectively over at the end of the 1st Period. Goals from Alex Grant, Ben Street, and Daniel Winnik put Canada 3-0 up, and in total command of the fixture.
Despite being runners-up in South Korea four years ago, the Germans aren’t expected to be in the mix when it comes to handing out medals.
Making it difficult to gauge just how good, or not, the performance from Canada was.
The US national team got off to an absolute flyer on Thursday (Beijing time), thrashing host nation China 8-0.
It’s not a result to get carried away with, as the host nation isn’t expected to be competitive in this group, or the tournament as a whole.
The hosts got progressively worse as the match went on. Already 4-0 down at the end of the 2nd Period, the Chinese capitulated thereafter, shipping another four goals in the 3rd Period, to lose 8-0.
2022 Beijing Olympics; Canada v USA Betting Picks
The top Canadian sportsbooks make the Canucks the betting favorites. I’m not overly confident backing Canada at 1.50 though.
Moneyline; Canada 1.50 The United States 2.40
In what could be a close match, the better value could lie with the USA here.

Puck line; Canada -1.5 (2.25) United States +1.5 (1.50)
The opposite applies here. While I think the USA is good value on the Moneyline, I certainly don’t think they are at 1.50 on the Puck line.
If I was to bet on it, I’d back Canada at 2.25, but I’m giving this market a wide berth.
Points Total @ 5.5; Over 1.95 Under 1.70
Finally, total points. Both these sides beat the spread in their respective openers, but the sportsbooks seem to think this will be a low scorer.
I’m opposing that view, and I make over 5.5 points my betting pick on Canada v USA.
