Ottawa Trying for Win as Big Home Underdog Against the Stampeders
Calgary heads to the Nation’s Capital as big favourites to beat the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night. While it looks enticing to see the line on Ottawa at home against a team with a losing record, the Redblacks are not worth backing on Friday.
The Redblacks are getting outscored at home this year on average by 13.22 points per game. One of the reasons for it and their 2-9 record this season (and 3-8 against the spread) is a poor play in the secondary. The Redblacks allow 11.87 yards per pass this season (while only mustering 9.73 per attempt themselves).
Calgary – despite their loss to Saskatchewan last weekend – is playing the best football they have this season. They are 3-1 straight up in October, thanks to a revitalized Bo Levi Mitchell and improving receiving core. It is time for Ottawa to see what they have for the next season with only three games left.
Hamilton Aims for Important Road Win Against the Edmonton Elks
Hamilton is back to .500 on the season after trouncing the Ottawa Redblacks 32-3 in Week 12. They look to lay another beatdown – on the league’s other two-win team when they play the Edmonton Elks on Friday night.
Edmonton is struggling to stay afloat as we head into November. Edmonton is currently on a five-game skid – which includes a 34-24 loss to Ottawa (only one another team this year has allowed more than 20 points to Ottawa).
Hamilton is playing well on both sides of the ball. It seems after shaky play and injuries at quarterback – the Tiger-Cats finally have a quarterback one cemented – Jeremiah Masoli. Masoli is coming into this game hot – after tossing nearly 800 yards and four TDs (with no turnovers) in his last two games.
Defensively, Hamilton only ranks behind the Blue Bombers in yards allowed per play (6.04) and points allowed per game (16.90). Edmonton – while efficient in some defensive categories – ranks second to last in points allow (26.78). It is hard to like anything going on in Edmonton right now.
Toronto Looks for Bounce-back Win against the Struggling Lions
Toronto moved into a two-way tie for first in the East Division, after falling to Montreal 37-16 in Week 12. They look to bounce back in Toronto – where they are undefeated – against a BC Lions’ team trending in the wrong direction.
The Lions are coming off the biggest loss of any team this season – a 45-0 humiliation at the hands of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. That puts the Lions’ losing streak at four – with two of the three other losses by 21 points or more.
The issues with the Lions are on offence and defence. They are getting outscored by 31.67 points over their last three games. It seems like the team cannot overcome the wall quarterback Mike Reilly hit three games ago. Once a MOP candidate – Reilly has three straight games without a passing touchdown or two yards passing. We like Toronto’s chances at home in this one.
Montreal and Saskatchewan Battle in the Biggest Game of Week 13
The best game of the week happens to be the last, as Montreal and Saskatchewan – both 6-4 this season – battle on Saturday night in Montreal. Offensively this season, no team – except maybe the Blue Bombers – is as good as the Alouettes.
Montreal has the league’s top rusher (William Stanback 880 rushing yards) and receiver (Eugene Lewis 815 receiving yards) heading into Week 13. With the two – and other talented skill position players – Montreal is the only team in the CFL this season averaging over 400 yards per game.
Montreal is also efficient at gaining yards, ranking second in yards per play at 7.10 or a full yard better than the Roughriders who rank seventh. Montreal also ranks better than Saskatchewan in some defensive categories such as yards allowed per game. We like Montreal as a home underdog to beat the Roughriders.
