In what should be a great title fight – we are giving a slight nod to Dustin Poirier over Charles Oliveira. Poirier’s skills in the Octagon are better in most areas – even if only by slim margins – than Charles Oliveira. Poirier holds the edge in cardio, landing strike rate, and defence.
Oliveira has shown better striking during his recent winning streak and does have an advantage in reach. While that will help in the fight – it is not enough for us to say he will win it.
Another reason we are backing Poirier is how he will defend Oliveira’s grappling abilities. As Poirier is the better striker, Oliveira will need to push himself early in the fight. He will try to take the fight to the ground – but against Poirier that will be challenging.
As the fight prolongs, Oliveira will force too much – which will either cost him in scoring (if the fight goes five rounds) or open up opportunities for Poirier to land strikes and potentially TKO the champ.
