UFC 264 Picks: McGregor vs Poirier 3

The McGregor vs Poirier trilogy will be concluded on July 10th, as we head to Nevada and the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. This event is sure to be one of the biggest of the year, with the UFC odds already released for a major event that won’t take place for months.

McGregor took the first in the series in an emphatic style. Then, the second bout between these UFC veterans came at the start of 2021, when Poirier surprised the odds at UFC betting sites and took down the Irishman in the second minute of round 2.

There are also some interesting fights on the main card with the Brazilians Gilbert Burns and Jennifer Maia stepping back into the Octagon. Burns hasn’t stepped into the ring since he lost out to the pound-for-pound champ Kamaru Usman.

The odds have been released and we’ve analyzed the very best online sportsbooks for Canadians. For those still wondering where to watch the UFC, we have a complete UFC schedule for our viewers to review.

UFC 264 Picks & Predictions

The event is still a long way off, but the popularity of the headliner Conor McGregor. As it stands, there are very few fights slated for the event, though we may see more coming up soon—the likes of “Sugar” Sean O’Malley among the names rumoured. We’ll keep this list updated as the event marches ever closer, so be sure to keep checking back with us!

UFC 264: Fights Announced

  • Conor McGregor (22-5-0) vs. Dustin Poirier (27-6-0)
  • Stephen Thompson (16-4-1) vs. Gilbert Burns (19-4-0)
  • Jennifer Maia (18-6-1) vs. Jessica Eye (15-9-0)

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier

Now 32 years old, the “Notorious” is very much in his prime. He has been in and out of the UFC for a few years now. This bout will be pivotal with regard to his MMA future.

He looked the part leading up to the second in the trilogy against Dustin. However, Dustin overwhelmed McGregor and was striking with accuracy right up until the TKO in the second.

We may see a different performance from McGregor this time, as he may have shaken off his ring rust and changed his mindset after being humbled by the American MMA veteran.

Both fighters are able strikers, with McGregor probably edging out Poirier in that department. As always, Conor will want to take the bout standing up, looking to pick his opponent apart and land that knockout blow. We back the Notorious to do just that.

Stephen Thompson vs Gilbert Burns

Burns went into his last bout against the reigning champ Usman looking to make it 7 wins in 7, but we all know how that went. That’s no slight on the Brazilian, his fight game is excellent and there is seemingly nobody in the Welterweight Division that can stop the Nigerian.

Burns has arguably the best ground game in the division and possesses electrifying striking. The downside to his game is he relies on getting up close and personal with his opponents, which doesn’t bode well against the long-limbed Stephen Thompson.

Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson has shown his class over the years. At 38-years old one doesn’t expect him to be in the UFC for much longer.

He goes into this bout looking for his third win on the bounce and is the odds on favourite across most major sportsbook providers. However, Burns is a fighter with some time to prove and we feel he will overwhelm the American winning via TKO.

Jennifer Maia vs Jessica Eye

Jennifer Maia has 3 wins in her last 5 fights and has looked stronger as she’s progressed through her MMA career. At 32-years old she’s now in her prime and looks to cement her name in UFC history.

She was heavily beaten by the formidable Valentina Shevchenko in her last fight, showing she can absorb a lot of strikes. Losing to Shevchenko is no shameful thing, as she’s proven to be the very best in the women’s fight game right now—arguably the best ever.

Jessica “Evil” Eye has lost 2 consecutive fights and will look to make amends at UFC 264. She’s the underdog in this bout but is more than capable of grabbing the win with her elite striking. We wager that Maia will take the win via TKO or decision.
