Bet On Las Vegas Raiders’ Games
Team slogans, mantras such as “Commitment to Excellence” and “Just Win Baby” have been a part of Oakland/Los Angeles football lore for decades. Living up to those expectations, a bet on Oakland Raiders games was a substantial investment during the final years of the AFL and for most of the first two NFL decades. Before the AFL/NFL merger in 1970, Oakland played in the last three AFL title games and went 1-2 in those contests. The lone AFL title led the Silver & Black to the 1967 AFL-NFL World Championship Game. Heavy -14 point underdogs in that matchup, which was later renamed Super Bowl II, Oakland was pummelled 33-14 by the Green Bay Packers on January 14, 1968, in Miami.
That wagering success carried over to the National Football League as the Raiders, while still based in the Bay Area, made the playoffs eight times over the first eleven NFL seasons. Despite a 2-5 AFC Championship record, led by coaching legends John Madden and Tom Flores, Oakland defeated the Minnesota Vikings 32-14 in Super Bowl XI before they soared above the Philadelphia Eagles during their 27-10 Super Bowl XV victory. Success can be bittersweet though, as Raiders renegade owner Al Davis took on the entire NFL in a successful antitrust lawsuit and moved the team to Los Angeles in 1998 – just one season after the Raiders had captured their second Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Earning a playoff berth in each of their first four seasons in SoCal, the Raiders captured Super Bowl XIII by crushing the Washington Redskins 38-9 on January 22, 1984, at Tampa Stadium in Florida. After three more postseason appearances, over nine years, the Silver & Black returned to Oakland to begin the 1995 NFL season. The Raiders NFL title game mark fell to 3-2 as they were bashed 48-21 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during Super Bowl XXXVII. The next 13 years would be miserable as Oakland posted a combined 63-145 mark and missed the playoffs from 2003 through 2015. That unlucky run of 13 straight losing campaigns finally came to an end during the 2016 NFL season.
At the time of writing (12/12/16), Oakland is enjoying a revival as they are 10-3 and positioned to make the postseason party. Usually already OFF NFL Championship Futures boards at this point in the season, the Silver & Black are right in the mix as second chalk to win the AFC West Division with a +163 price and sixth favourites to win Super Bowl LI with a +1800 money line at William Hill. Speaking of futures betting, the NFC and AFC Championship odds, as well as the 2017 Super Bowl prices, are currently at their most robust. Leaders in Championship wagering, bettors are advised to surf over to William Hill to place their NFL playoff futures bets before the numbers shrink to low.
