Before moving to Baltimore in 1954, the Orioles joined the American League in 1901 as one of the charter members. They were called the Milwaukee Brewers for a year before moving to Missouri as the St. Louis Browns between 1902-1953. The O’s have played out of a hitter’s ballpark since 1992 when Oriole Park at Camden Yards replaced Memorial Stadium as their home field. The Baltimore Orioles have witnessed legends on the diamond during their history, including Frank Robinson, Cal Ripken Jr., Jim Palmer, and Brooks Robinson.

This storied franchise has been part of the AL East since 1969, historically one of the toughest divisions in Major League Baseball.

Bet On Baltimore Orioles’ Games

As a long-time member of the Major League Baseball AL East Division, the Baltimore Orioles have dealt with a stronger level of competition than most other MLB squads. Stuck in the same division as the New York Yankees for decades, the Orioles have had to build teams the smart way instead of overspending to win championships.

The overall quality of divisional rivals has been extremely high since the 1990s, with the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox reversing long-standing droughts to become baseball heavyweights and World Series’ winners. Even the Tampa Devil Rays experienced a brief run of high-level play. These conditions create intense competition, including years with multiple teams over .500, making postseason play a distant reality for Baltimore.

After a terrible decade to begin the millennium, the Orioles finally managed to put together a talented squad that strikes fear into opposing pitchers. This team broke a long playoff drought of 15 years with a wild card berth in 2012, and a division title drought of 17 years in 2014. The play style of the Orioles is far from subtle, preferring to pound homers in hitter-friendly Camden Yards instead of attempting small ball. Unfortunately, this also has the effect of making things difficult for Orioles pitching staff, despite the recent trend of excellent fielding.

Success has been fleeting for the Orioles, who have won only three Worlds Series, six AL Pennants titles and nine AL East division titles since moving to Baltimore. Things are looking up as of late, as young pitching talent promises to grow into the dominant starting staff that the Orioles have needed for the past decade. With a bit of good fortune, Baltimore has a solid chance at winning their first World Series ring since 1983 sooner rather than later. As such, they offer superb value when betting on Major League Baseball.
