NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will The Flames Burn The West-Best Blues?

Calgary enters their second meeting with St. Louis after doubling the Red Wings 6-3 last Thursday. Sean Monahan and Johnny Hockey are up against a stalwart Blues defense and a history of losing to St. Louis, including a 5-2 defeat on October 25th. Despite this trend, bettors should take note of a relatively soft line that offers good value for a favorite on the road.

The line for the Dallas-Carolina meeting happens to be a similar scenario, promising a solid payout even though the Stars win more than 60% of their meetings with the Canes – dating all the way back to the 80s when the franchises were known as the North Stars and Whalers.

NHL Straight Up Picks & Puckline Predictions

  • St. Louis at Calgary: Bet Blues SU (-120), Under 5.5
  • Dallas at Carolina: Bet Dallas SU (-120), Over 5.5

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Blues at Flames (St. Louis SU -120)

St. Louis has dominated Calgary since the beginning of 2014, earning a 7-2-1 record over their last ten meetings against the Flames, including a six-game win streak that spanned two years. This season, the Blues have blossomed into the second-best team in the NHL, trailing the red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning by only three points in the Presidents’ Trophy race.

After losing a stinker against the Islanders, the Blues will look to rebound with strength against a Flames team that hasn’t played well against St. Louis since 2011. Calgary’s much improved on defense and goaltending this year, which should create a tight, low-scoring matchup at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Stars at Hurricanes (Dallas SU -120)

Carolina has beaten Dallas only four times in their last 19 meetings, with a 2-8 record against the Stars over their last ten. The Hurricanes feature terrific young talent, but remain a year away from growing into an eastern conference contender.

Dallas went all in over the offseason, and they’re starting to get over a few of the roadbumps that typically greet teams with significant personnel changes. The Stars are 6-4-0 over their last ten, while the Canes have a 3-4-3 mark over the same span. Dallas could run away with this game early if Carolina doesn’t play air-tight defense, which isn’t their specialty.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night – High Risk/Reward

Sean Monahan Scores Goal Against Blues (+185)

Sean Monahan’s been on a tear for the past couple of weeks, earning three goals and five assists during a six-game point streak. The Flames’ number one center plays well against the Blues, scoring five goals in 13 meetings. Monahan hasn’t lit the lamp over his past two, and his longest goalless streak this year is three games. The lesser risk involves betting on Sean getting a point, which features a -130 line – still a decent payout, but nowhere near as valuable as the goal-scoring prop for Calgary’s star pivot.
