MLB Predictions: Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees
Blue Jays at Yankees MLB Odds
The Toronto Blue Jays (9-18) are still looking to hit double digit wins as they go into the rubber match of their 3 game series with the Yankees (16-9). An 11-5 loss yesterday set them back, but they look to start their climb in the AL East on Wednesday night.
Blue Jays Steve Pearce finally got back over a .200 BA last night, after going 4 for 4 and belting his first 2 home runs of the season. Despite the loss, and despite this being their worst record this far in the season since 2004, manager John Gibbons is expecting the team to go on a run once Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson return to the lineup.
For the New York Yankees, Aaron Judge was the story last night though. Slamming 10 home runs in April tied a major league rookie record. He's also only the 3rd player in Yankees history to go deep 12 times in 25 games, right behind A-Rod and Babe Ruth themselves.
Last night Judge continued his dominance, blasting 2 home runs, after just having another multi-homer game on Friday. He leads his team with 25 RBIs, has a .313 BA, and 1.219 OBPS. Brett Gardner is also someone to look out for, as he's 8 for 23 with 4 home runs, and 7 RBIs during their homestand.
Marcus Stroman (2-2, 2.97 ERA) is coming off a couple of strong outings, but had a no-decision in his start against Tampa Bay. The right hander has only allowed 2 or less runs in 4 of his last 5 starts. His walk count was miniscule as well, allowing only 7 walks in that whole period. Against the Yankees, he's 5-2, with a 2.17 ERA. At Yankee Stadium though, he's a less impressive 2-2, with a 4.12 ERA. This Bronx Bomber squad is only 15 for 85 (.176) against him, with Jacoby Ellsbury a mere 1 for 20.
The Yanks start veteran CC Sabathia (2-1, 4.34 ERA). After some strong outings to start the season, he's had a couple of subpar performances, in a loss to the Pirates and giving up 7 runs to the Orioles in 5.1 innings. The 36-year-old has had a ton of experience with the Blue Jays though. In 26 starts, he's 15-9, with a 3.32 ERA against the Blue Jays. More recently though, he's gone 0-5 in his last 6 against the Blue Birds, but their current roster is only hitting .218 against him. Jose Bautista is a measly 5 for 40 (.125) with only 1 homer and 10 strikeouts against the Yankees starter.New York Yankees (-110) SportsInteraction
MLB Picks Today - May 3, 2017
This will be a great game to watch, as the books have set the line pretty even. Stroman can have a great game, but it's more likely Sabathia settles down and has a game reminiscent of his games from the beginning of the season. New York's 5-0 in Sabathia's last 5 home starts, and they're 4-0 in his last 4 starts against the AL East. Stroman's been faily inconsistent, with the Jays going 0-5 in their last 5 after a quality start by the right hander.
In terms of the team in general, look for Toronto to have difficulties hitting Sabathia, who has great career numbers against them, and holding them to tiny batting averages. He hasn't done as well recently, but he will be good enough to keep the anemic Jays offense in check. Even if they get to him, the Yankee offense will get to Stroman and out-slug Canada's favorite team. With a price like this, you have to take the hoome side.
