Giants vs Cowboys Rivalry

Draped in layer upon layer of history, the Giants vs Cowboys rivalry has been one of biggest feuds in the National Football League since New York and Dallas tied 31-31 in their first ever contest on December 4, 1960. Squaring off twice every year during the NFL regular season, the ‘Boys and G-Men battle in NFC East Division along with the Washington Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles. This is rivalry sports betting at its best!

Giants vs Cowboys History

Big Blue was established in 1925, when NYG founder Jim Mara paid a $500 NFL membership fee, but the Giants vs Cowboys history did not begin until Dallas ponied up $1 million franchise fee and joined as an expansion team in 1960. The first seed of this rivalry was planted when former Giants player and defensive coach Tom Landry jumped ship to become the Cowboys first ever head coach.

Struggling early, Dallas went 2-5-2 during the first nine games, this rivalry turned lopsided in favour of the Cowboys as the ‘Boys posted a 25-5 series record between 1965 and 1980. A lasting feud gained a firm foothold after that though as these teams battled to a 36-35 record, in favour of the Giants, from 1981 through the 2016 NFL season. Three points or less decided 21 of those matches.

When Do The Giants Play The Cowboys?

Facing off at least twice every season, the Giants play the Cowboys in a home-and-home series that is split between MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX. Somewhat ironically, when this NFC East feud moved into those opulent new mega-stadiums – the visitors spoiled both first game parties. The Giants posted a 33-31 win in the first ever game played at AT&T Stadium in 2009 while the Cowboys won the first meeting in this rivalry duel at MetLife Stadium 33-20 in 2010. A game early and then late in the schedule is often the case in this series.

During a run of twenty meetings (2007 to 2016) home field advantage did not meant a whole lot in this series as the Cowboys posted a 5-5 record in New York while the Giants scored a 6-4 edge in the Lone Star State. When the teams met in Dallas, the scores were rather lopsided with the victors posting an average 27.7 to 18.5 final count. The battles in the Big Apple were much closer with the winners earning an average 29.5 to 24.6 margin of victory. That said, this rivalry had its fair share of close games during that decade as 14 of the twenty matches were decided by a touchdown or less.

NFC East Division: Top Sportsbooks to Bet on NFL Rivalries

Inter-league feuds, no matter the sport, heat up the action and make matches more enjoyable for fans. Akin to the nine-team Canadian Football League, where virtually every squad has a rivalry with one another, the NFC East is more than just the Giants vs Cowboys clashes. The Giants feuds with Washington and Philadelphia date back to 1932 and 1933 and New York faced the Redskins and Eagles 170 times each. During the first 51 Super Bowl seasons, the Giants posted a 54-46-1 record versus Washington while Philadelphia had a 59-44-1 edge over New York. Over the same time span, Dallas went 62-43 versus the Eagles and rose above the Redskins with a 64-39 mark.

Though not as pronounced, online sportsbooks also have rivalries – that can pit countries against each other. These feuds come in the form of battling for business and bettors are the winners in the end. NFL 2017 playoff futures odds proved that point as Canada and United Kingdom linemakers posted radically different prices – particularly during Conference Championship Sunday. Purchasing sharp lines at solid prices is an important betting strategy and handicappers can accomplished that with the top ranked bookmakers listed here at Canada Sports Betting.
