Winnipeg Jets Odds

Manitoba hockey roots reach all the way back to 1972 when Winnipeg joined the World Hockey Association. That WHA Jets squad lasted from 1972 to 1979 before merging with the NHL for a stint that ran from 1979 to 1996. Winnipeg then jetted to the Arizona prior to the Atlanta Thrashers franchise fold and Fire on Ice action returning to Manitoba in 2011. While that may be confusing, the Winnipeg Jets odds and recent form is always crystal clear and current below.

Bet On Winnipeg Jets Games

Dating back to 1972, there have been plenty of twists and turns on the Manitoba pro hockey map. After being denied a NHL franchise in 1967, Winnipeg businessman Ben Hatskin secured a franchise in the upstart World Hockey Association. One of Hatskin’s first moves was to lure superstar Bobby Hull away from the Chicago Blackhawks. That blockbuster move, Hull’s ten-year $1.75M contract plus a $1M bonus was the first million-dollar deal in sports, helped fuel a seven-year feud between the rival leagues. Winnipeg ended up being the most successful WHA franchise as the Jets claimed three of seven Avco Cups as league champions in 1976, 1978 and the WHA final season in 1979.

For all their bravado, the WHA was a fledgling league from the start and they agreed to fold when Winnipeg, Hartford, Quebec and Edmonton were granted a NHL franchise. Perceived by some as backhanded punishment to the WHA teams, Winnipeg lost the bulk of their WHA all-star players during a “reclamation” process as NHL teams reclaimed players who had jumped ship as part of the merger deal. Long story short, the Jets remained largely grounded in Winnipeg as they produced a 506-660-172 record during 17 seasons in Manitoba. That lack of winning led to financial woes and the Winnipeg franchise re-located to Arizona prior to the start of the 1996-97 NHL regular season.

Following a second attempt to establish ice hockey in sunny Georgia, the NHL returned to Manitoba when the Atlanta Thrashers relocated in 2011. Georgia’s losses have been Canadian prairie province gains as the Atlanta Flames moved to Calgary in 1981. Winnipeg advanced to the second season just once during their first six years back in the NHL. Aiming for their first series win, the Jets were grounded by Ducks as Anaheim swept Winnipeg 4-0 during the first round of the 2015 Stanley Cup playoffs.
