Pittsburgh Penguins Odds

It’s good to be on top! The Penguins are back to championship form, with a healthy Sidney Crosby and stacked championship roster. As a franchise, the team has won 4 Stanley Cups in 1990–91, 1991–92, 2007–08, 2008–09, and 2015–16. They have also won 5 conference titles, and 8 division championships. They have seen a lot of great players over the years. This includes names like Andy Bathgate… Bryan Trottier. [+]

They have been blessed to have two mega stars on their roster over the years. The first, of course was Mario Lemieux, one of the most highly touted NHL draft picks in history and a man who lived up to his hype. Super Mario led them to two consecutive Stanley Cups in 1991 and 1992. Under his ownership, the Penguins won a third Cup in 2009 and a fourth in 2016.

Today, they’re led by Sidney Crosby, who was the youngest captain in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup in the 2008–2009 season.

The Penguins found another gear when they brought in Nick Bonino, Eric Fehr and Matt Cullen. This elevated them to champions… Now where to?

They have a very young defence, with Olli Maatta (21 years old), Derrick Pouliot (21) and Brian Dumoulin (24). This was thought to be a weakness going into this season, but that same youth seems to be what will keep this team at the top of the standings for years to come.

Any team with Crosby and Malkin on their roster is going to be in the championship conversations. But, their defense is what will make sure that people are still talking about them in June.

Right now, they would appear to lack that one tough-as-nails player that will refuse to take crap or back down while the Penguins have a bullseye on them next year. That may keep them from repeating as champions.
