Ottawa Senators – Missing Erik Karlsson
After a bad streak in late December and early January, the Ottawa Senators have fallen to the last place in the Eastern Conference. The Senators rank last in the National Hockey League in goals and shots allowed (3.87 and 36.87) per game. The struggles have resulted in an Over/Under record this season of 29-14-3. The 29 overs are three more than the Tampa Bay Lightning (the league’s top offence and team) have this season.
Colorado Avalanche – Needing more from Seymon Varlamov
While the Colorado Avalanche own the top offence trio in the NHL, for them to make a serious playoff run (or even make the postseason) they need more from goaltender Semyon Varlamov. Although the netminder has been injured this season (playing in only 28 of a possible 46 games). Varlamov is on pace to have his worst statistical season (excluding the lockout year in 2012-13) when he started at least 50% of games for the Avalanche. He need play as he did from October to December 2, when he was 10-5-3 with a .930 save percentage if the Avalanche are to grab a playoff spot in the highly competitive Western Conference playoff race.
