Giants vs. Texans Team Statistics

For only the fifth time in NFL history, the New York Giants play the Houston Texans. The Giants have a 3-1 edge all-time, but much has changed since the two teams last played in 2014.

New York Giants Preview

As the New York Giants offensive line complied injuries, the hopes for the Giants to rebound after a 0-2 start dwindle. Second overall pick Saquon Barkley is consistently hit in the backfield. If you remove his 68-yard touchdown run in Week 1, Barkley is averaging under 2.4 yards per carry.

Houston Texans Preview

The Houston Texans lost as favourites last weekend to the Tennessee Titans, who started backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert. The Texans now face an uphill climb to get back into playoff contention as the only team in the AFC South without a win. While their rushing offence is performing well, they need more from DeAndre Hopkins who led the NFL last season with 14 receiving touchdowns.

Game Snippet

This is a must-win game for both teams involved as only 5 teams since 1980 to start the 0-3 made the playoffs (that is just 2.8%). Both teams need better performances from their offences, as the Texans rank 26th in points per game, while the Giants are averaging the third fewest points in the NFL this season.

Giants vs. Texans Predictions

Moneyline Prediction

The Giants road woes since the start of the 2017 NFL season are concerning entering Week 3 of the 2018 NFL season. Over their 1-8 stretch, the Giants have been outscored by an average of 7.2 points (a number that would be greater had the Giants not scored a garbage time touchdown in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys).

While the Texans are not doing much better over the last year plus, the potential return of Jadeveon Clowney to their defensive line would give the team a big boost. Even without him in the lineup (or at a limited capacity)

Deshaun Watson has also played better at home in his young NFL career. Watson is 2-1 at home as a starter with a 13-3 TD-INT ratio with a quarterback rating of 109.3. Look for Watson to have his best game of the season and help the Texans avoid a 0-3 start.

Pick: Houston Texans (-270) to Win

Over/Under Predictions

While neither team’s offence has done much through the first two weeks of the 2018 NFL season, they 41.0 over/under line is low enough you should feel confident betting on the over.

In Watson’s three home starts last season, the Texans averaged 41.3 points per game. While expecting the Texans to top 40 points on a weekly basis is extreme, they could not have too much of a problem setting a season-high in points this week.

The Giants should also have a better offensive outing in Week 3. Odell Beckham Jr. was held in check last week, but over his career, the superstar wideout has never gone consecutive weeks without at least 60 yards receiving or a receiving touchdownLook for each team to have their best offensive showings of the season.

Pick: Over 41.0 (-110)
