Should Baltimore be this large of a favorite?

The 2-0 Denver Broncos will be heading on the road for the first time this season to take on AFC Conference Rival, the Baltimore Ravens in week 3 of the NFL season.

And with a Broncos defense that hasn’t given up a 100 yards on the ground through 2 games, or 65 yards to any individual running back this will not be the easiest of sledding for Ravens running backs Alex Collins or Buck Allen.

The Ravens need to stay out of obvious passing situations where Von Miller and company will be able to excel. Flacco was sacked 4 times last week against the Bengals after going down early and playing from behind all game, and having to be in obvious passing situations.

Von Miller

And the overlooked talking point of the Ravens in this early part of the NFL season is that #1 cornerback Jimmy Smith was suspended by the team for 4 games. In week 1 Kelvin Benjamin dropped a touchdown. In week 2, AJ Green scored three times in the first half. Without the top cornerback in your lineup, #1 Wide Receivers consequently get more scoring chances. And both Demariyus Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders, not AJ Green but very good in their own right, will benefit from this.

So in summation, for the Ravens to cover the 5.5 points they are being asked to here, they probably need to control the clock with the running game, and keep Denver’s wideouts from making big plays and neither feel like an easy task given the circumstances.

Andy Dalton had open receivers the entire game and gashed the Raven’s secondary time and time again. And with a tandem of good rookie Broncos running backs they will have to respect the run but won’t be able to load up against it. So for Case Keenum it will be about reading the defense at the line of scrimmage and getting his team in the right play, be it pass or run.

Now granted Keenum is not Tom Brady, but still a competent starting NFL quarterback. So with two evenly matched teams 5.5 points feels like a lot.

Take the Broncos and the points this Sunday.

Time running out for Flacco?

Since winning the Superbowl, Joe Flacco has regressed as an NFL quarterback and with the drafting of Lamar Jackson this spring it may be sooner rather than later that he is no longer an NFL quarterback.

It may interest bettors to know that since winning the Superbowl, Joe Flacco has gone 14-26 SU on the road. Going forward, as long as they stick with Joe Flacco, you should be looking to find spots to fade the Ravens away from home.
