Raptors @ Nets Game Preview

Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors enter Friday’s game with the best road record in the NBA at 10-2. They have played outstanding basketball this season away from Toronto, only losing a strange game in Milwaukee (where Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo both did not play) and an overtime loss to the Boston Celtics.

The Raptors open as 8.5-point favourites on Friday night. When favoured on the road by 5.5 points or more this season, the Raptors are undefeated (7-0) and 3-3-1 against the spread.

Brooklyn Nets

After a reasonable start to their season, the Brooklyn Nets have floundered the last few weeks, losing their previous eight games. Their last game, a two-point home loss to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, was particularly heartbreaking. Brooklyn entered the fourth quarter, leading by 18 points, but Paul George came alive and dropped 47 points.

The Nets now have the worst home record in the NBA. The Nets have only one win as a home underdog and are 4-9 ATS in Brooklyn this season.

Game Snippet

Once a competitive Division rival, the Toronto Raptors have dominated the Brooklyn Nets over the last three seasons. Toronto leads the all-time series against the 50-39 in the regular season after winning 12 straight against the Nets (55-47 overall when including the postseason).

The Nets do not have the players to matchup against the Toronto Raptors. They occasionally play the Raptors close (losing two of the four games last season by four points or less). However, this year’s Toronto Raptors have Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, who should not have trouble limiting the Nets.

Raptors @ Nets Game Predictions

Game Prediction – Raptors win but Nets keep it Close

Sandwiched between games against the second and third seeds in the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors head to New York for a one-game road trip against the Brooklyn Nets. This game has the making of a classic trap game.

However, the Nets are without their best player, third-year shooting guard Caris LeVert. Before LeVert went down, the Nets were competitive, posting a 6-8 record. Since his injury, the Nets are 2-10 and have not won a game at home.

There is always a chance the Raptors rest a few players on Friday night. Kyle Lowry’s shooting has been off lately and some more time off could help. The Raptors won without Lowry last Saturday, with the offence running through Leonard and Fred VanVleet.

That win over Cleveland was a bit closer than expected. The Cavaliers covered as a 12-point underdog (losing 106-95). The game against the Nets will likely play out similarly. Some Raptors could be looking ahead to Sunday against the Milwaukee Bucks. While that does not mean the Raptors will lose the game, picking the Raptors straight up is a safer pick on Friday night.

Pick: Toronto Raptors (-420) to win
