2019 NCAA Basketball Championship Futures Opening Night Update

Welcome to the 2018-19 NCAA basketball season as the race to the NCAAB National Championship opens with a slew of 147 games featuring 294 of the 353 USA Division I Men’s basketball programs. From the Oregon Ducks in the Northwest, to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in the Southwest, over to the Miami Hurricanes in the Southeast, and up to the UMass-Lowell River Hawks in the Northeast, hope springs eternal across America. Let the games begin as the battle for 68 March Madness berths begins on 06/11/18.

“Duke Blue Devils Open As Top Overall Poll Ranking Favorite”

Despite ranking fourth in the AP Top 25, and third in the USA Today Coaches Poll, Duke heads into the new season as top National Championship chalk at top ranked basketball betting sites. The Blue Devils lost their entire 2017 starting roster but they always reload in Durham and Duke will be led by stars in the making in freshmen R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson. The supporting cast, including Cam Reddish and Tre Jones, is also loaded with youngsters who will be in guided by legendary HC Mike Krzyzewski.

“Kentucky Wildcats Aim For First Championship Since 2012”

Entering his tenth season, HC John Calipari led Kentucky to the 2012 NCAAB Championship and to a different top tournament level in each of the past five seasons. The Wildcats were runner-up in 2014, made the Final Four in 2015, the Round of 32 in 2016, the Elite Eight in 2017 and the Sweet Sixteen level last season. We get a look at where the Blue Devils and Wildcats are at as they clash on Opening Night (9:30 PM ET) in the four-team Champions Classic series that also features Michigan State and Kansas.

“Nevada Wolf Pack Place Higher On Futures Boards Than Poll Rankings”

Ranking seventh in the AP Top 25, and ninth in the USA Today Coaches poll, Nevada enters the 2018-19 NCAA basketball season as third favorites to cut down the nets at the end of March Madness on April 9, 2019. Sporting their highest preseason ranking in school history, with 29-8 and 28-7 records, the Wolf Pack qualified for March Madness during the past two seasons. Nevada made a first round exit in 2017 and lost to tournament darling Loyola (IL) during the South Regional Semifinal match last year.

“Gonzaga Attempt To Shed Always a Bridesmaid Never A Bride Mantra”

Aiming for their 21st straight March Madness berth, 20th with HC Mark Few, Gonzaga looks to play in the NCAAB Championship game for the second time in three years. Killian Tillie (ankle) may miss eight weeks, but Josh Perkins, Zach Norvell, Rui Hachimura, plus the additions of Brandon Clarke and Geno Crandall, may make the Bulldogs 2018-19 squad better than the team that lost 71-65 to North Carolina during the 2017 Duel in the Desert. The Bulldogs four straight Sweet 16 appearances is the longest streak of any team.

“Kansas Jayhawks Look to Get Over The Hump With Experienced Squad”

Led by HC Bill Self, now in his 16th season as the Jayhawks bench-boss, Kansas has rolled into March Madness as a #1 or #2 seed over the past nine years. Based on preseason polls, make it a decade as the Jayhawks are ranked #1 in the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches polls. There is a lot to like in Kansas as returning stars Lagerald Vick and Udoka Azubuike, the arrivals of Dedric and KJ. Lawson (Memphis) and Charlie Moore (Cal), plus rising stars Quentin Grimes and Devon Dotson, justifies the Jayhawks owning the top perch.

Bodog Next Level Lines Rise Steadily After Top Five

Prices jump after the top five, as North Carolina is sixth favorite at Bodog with a +1500 money line. Defending Champion Villanova, who are in a mild team reloading state, are right behind the Tar Heels with +1600 odds. Virginia, who became the first #1 seed to lose to a #16 squad, over 136 first round March Madness matches, rounds out the current Elite Eight with a +1800 title price. Tennessee (+2800) plus Michigan Sate, Michigan and Oregon, all tagged with a lofty +3300 National Championship line, round out the top contenders.

NCAA Basketball Future Bets Explained

Similar to NBA hoops, NCAA basketball features a strong bias towards favorites, with hot regular season squads being tagged as top seeds in the tournament. The vast majority of NCAA champions have been number one seeds. Since the tournament expanded, to 64 teams in 1985, the #1 seeds have won 20 tournaments, while seeds 2-8 have won 13 titles. Number two seeds have won five March Madness tournaments, number three seeds have four wins, while fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth seeds have won once. In other words – it is often best to avoid the longshot underdogs.

Less than ten percent of Final Four teams have been a seventh seed or worse since 1991, showing the long road that bottom seeds face. While each year features incredible upsets, by the time the semi-finals arrive, the tournament often shakes off lower seeds which don’t have the same talent level as elite colleges. When looking to place NCAA basketball future wagers, Canucks will come across a vast list of bookmakers vying for their bets. Be warned – they’re not all created equally!

Partnering with a reputable bookmaker is crucial to obtaining the sharpest odds that come with the highest possible payouts. Top sportsbooks often offer promos and player rewards – giving bettor’s a boost in the form of deposit bonuses, free bets and other benefits for new and experienced players alike.
