UFC 242 - All Fights
Here are the fights to watch at UFC 242, starting with the main event for the UFC lightweight championship.
UFC 242 Main Card
- Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier
- Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder
- Islam Makhachev vs. Davi Ramos
- Curtis Blaydes vs. Shamil Adburakhimov
- Mairbek Taisumov vs. Carlos Diego Ferreira
UFC 242 – Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Dustin Poirier
The main event sees Khabib Nurmagomedov taking his 27-0 against the smart and experienced Dustin Poirier. Khabib, the current lightweight champion, is one of the most diversely skilled fighters to ever enter the octagon.
He can control any fight and take any his opponents strengths. While Poirier is a smarter opponent than most and will know not to underestimate anything about Khabib, it is hard to see him getting enough of an advantage to win.
Poirier is a better striker since moving up but does not have enough skills to take on Khabib if, or more likely when, the fight moves to closer together or to the ground.
UFC 242 – Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder
Two strikers headline the second last fight of the night, with UFC odds putting the two closer together than most of the fights on the main card. However, when you bet on UFC 242 and want an underdog than this is the fight to take one.
While Edson Barboza is the favourite, he has not looked his best in his last few fights. Felder, conversely, looks like one of the toughest outs in the lightweight division.
His striking has improved since these two fought in 2015 and Felder is more experienced now, coming off a string of tough fights. While Barboza is never an easy fight, we expect Felder to take it to Barboza and pick up another impressive win.
UFC 242 – Islam Makhachev vs. Davi Ramos
With experience training with Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev is a highly-skilled fighter capable of taking away his opponent’s best skills.
In this fight against Davi Ramos, it will be taking away his ability to submit his opponent. Makhachev will keep the fight upright, occasionally opting for some wrestling and grappling to control Ramos.
Ramos is not a strong enough striker to beat Makachev by striking or points, meaning this fight should last three rounds with Makhachev picking up another win for his UFC resume.
UFC 242 – Curtis Blaydes vs. Shamil Abdurakhimov
While a loss a few fights back hurt Curtis Blaydes chances at a heavyweight title fight, we expect the fighter to get back into the mix with a victory over Shamil Abdurakhimov.
Blaydes is a talented fighter with some impressive wins in his career. He is a talented striker and his wrestling abilities are superior. He should fight smart and limit his veteran opponent’s chances to land too many significant strikes. Blaydes is our UFC 242 best bet of the night.
