Premier League Picks: On To Some Boxing Day Blowouts?

Premier League Picks: On To Some Boxing Day Blowouts?

Will Spurs Botch Another Easy Game?

My Team's Next MatchTottenham

The first game of Matchday 20 is Tottenham hosting Saints at 7:30am EST. Now that the Premier League title race is over Spurs may spring into form and get RED HOT, a trick that they've been pulling for 2 seasons now.

But another trick they've been pulling is not winning games at Wembley as heavy favorites.

Southampton fits that description However they are in bad shape. Charlie Austin and Ryan Bertrand just did their hamstrings a couple days ago. Virgil Van Dijk is fit and not playing (maybe because they plan to sell him in January), leaving them stretched and thin heading into this fixture.

Spurs have let us down a few times in this spot...so I hesitate to recommend this but...

Pick Tottenham: -1.5 (Even) Bodog

Liverpool Versus an 11 Man Welsh Wall

My Team's Next MatchLiverpool

At 12:30pm EST on Boxing Day Liverpool host Swansea who will more than likely park the bus and try frustrate the Reds from minute one.

This tactic can and has worked on Liverpool this season. So Swansea will try it...and they will fail.

Liverpool for all the joy they provide feel like they deserve a better fate than the one they get some days. Hopefully they put cookies under the fire place for Santa Claus and they don't wind up with a lump of coal standing in net for them again on Tuesday.

Pick: Liverpool -2 (-140) Bodog

How Much Will Man City in by This Week?

My Team's Next MatchManchester City

So once again we have a small team in Newcastle who will park the bus from the first whistle.

Furthermore it finally may be time for Pep to start rotating his squad to ensure that everyone keeps fit for the entire season. Rafa Benitez won't try to go at City, he'll try to lull them to sleep by putting 10 men behind the ball.

I think it'll work. Not to say that Man City won't eventually score and win, I just think that it will take them a while. It will be cold, so City may be a little slow getting out of the box and then should eventually warm up and break the resistance. So with that in mind the total feels like the way to attack this game.

Nine Toon home games have seen 21 goals, and Nine City away games have seen 29 goals- both averaging under 3.5 per game.

Pick: Under 3.5 goals (-143) William Hill

Did Arsenal Find Their Spirit?

My Team's Next MatchArsenal

The Gunners who had looked uninspired and sloppy for most of December, came out and were exactly that against Liverpool on Friday. By all accounts, they should have been blown out by halftime.

But then in the 2nd half they found 5 minutes of magic and somehow got themselves a result. I like their talent enough at this price to wager that they come away from Selhurst Park with all 3 points.

In their managerial careers, Wenger has gone 7-3-2 and outscored Roy Hodgson 24-11.

If your bills haven't set you back too much, invest a little on Arsenal. As a big boy club fighting for top four games like this fall under the category of must wins.

Pick: Arsenal (-136) Sports Interaction

The Collapsing European Super League: Is There Still Hope?
The Collapsing European Super League: Is There Still Hope?

The European Super League (ESL) was supposed to be the breakaway club for top European football clubs, the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Liverpool to name a few.

The full list of Super League clubs:

  • English - Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham.
  • Spanish - Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid.
  • Italian - AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus.

However, plans broke down the very next day after the featured clubs made the announcement, led by Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez. Perez has been defiant in the face of big clubs like Juventus and Manchester City dropping out, with the governing body FIFA also threatening to ban teams from their domestic leagues.

The anger and frustration at the decision to go ahead with a Super League boiled over when fans of Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham held mass protests outside the relative stadiums. The announcement caused a wave of protest across Europe, as UEFA made it clear that all clubs involved would face repercussions if they were to go ahead and compete in the breakaway Super League.

But, what upset the fans so much and is the Super League really so different from the Champions League?
