Manchester United Chelsea Premier League Picks Week 33
Manchester United Chelsea Preview
By kickoff time at 11am EST this Sunday, Chelsea will already know the result of Tottenham, the only team trying to chase them down, who play the early game on Saturday.
If Tottenham win as expected then Antonio Conte's team will have only a 4 point lead. Nothing has fazed Chelsea yet but the Spurs just will not go away.
But the Blues have one huge advantage coming into this game: Rest. Since Chelsea's game last Saturday, Manchester United have played 2 games. While Chelsea's first team has been re-cooperating and preparing for this game, United's first team has logged 180 minutes of football.
Furthermore, Chelsea have not lost to Manchester United since 2012, including two victories this season, keeping clean sheets in both games.
So what does this mean for Sunday from a betting standpoint?
BET365 is offering Chelsea Draw No Bet at -110 and I think this is a smart play for many reasons. It is much more likely that this game ends in a stalemate rather than a Chelsea loss, especially taking into consideration Manchester United's inability to win games at home in the Premier League this season. Chelsea are the best away side in the country while Manchester United are the 10th best home side. But there is one play that stands out as a surefire bet.
Under 2.5 Goals (-163)
In 16 away games this season Chelsea have only conceded 14 goals. In 16 home games this season United have only conceded 11 goals. Both under 1 goal per game allowed. The nature of the clash of two powerhouse teams would also suggest a game where scoring chances are harder to come by as neither will give the opposition anything.
But the reason I recommend Under 2.5 goals more than any other play is because of 1 man - Jose Mourinho. In his career when the Special One has been at a perceived disadvantage he has carried out his trademark plan. He has killed the game.
As Chelsea manager, he turned it into an art form on route to winning 3 Premier League titles. Now welcoming his old club to his new home, the traveling fans who once loved him and who now call him Judas, will see an all too familiar sight; the beautiful game destroyed.
Mourinho's ego will not allow him to lose three games in one season to his old club and the man who replaced him and his is leading his former team to a title. He knows if he keeps a clean sheet he can't lose and he knows the best way to keep a clean sheet is to kill the game.
From someone who has been capitalizing on this trend for years, it's time to go to well once more.
