FC Dallas vs Toronto MLS Picks
Dallas vs Toronto
Two of the pre-season favourites go head to head on Saturday night when Toronto FC travels to face FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium. While the Canucks are living up to their favouritism tag and sitting pretty at the top of the overall MLS standings, Dallas are in the middle of a major slump that has seen them drop to fourth in the West after a promising opening half of the season.
FC Dallas have won just once in their last eight MLS fixtures - they scored six against Real Salt Lake on June 3rd - and while they have managed a couple of draws in the league and two wins in their Open Cup campaign, they will need to seriously improve if they are to even challenge the rampant Reds who have lost just two matches all season and are coming off a big Canadian Championship victory over arch-rivals Montreal Impact.
FC Dallas made a solid start to the season and were undefeated through their opening nine fixtures. This run was built around their solid defense and in spite of falling into a form slump in recent weeks they remain the equal second best defensive team in the league, conceding just fifteen goals in their sixteen matches. This is evenly split between home fixtures (seven conceded) and away matches (eight). Dallas are yet to be scored against more than twice in a single match.
In terms of goalscoring, Dallas are around midtable with 23 goals for the season so far. They are not known for being ruthless in front of goal, and if you take out their two fixtures against Real Salt Lake where they scored a combined nine goals, FC Dallas would only be scoring at a rate of one goal per match and would not have scored more than twice in a fixture.
When considering the correct score, handicap or over/under markets, be wary of these statistics. Based on form, FC Dallas are unlikely to score many, if any, against a strong Toronto side, although if their defensive record holds you should expect to see a low scoring encounter.
The Reds are on top of the MLS and are heading once again for a playoff berth largely thanks to their Italian maestro Sebastian Giovinco. While his personal tally is not quite challenging for this season's golden boot, you cannot deny the impact he has had on the club in front of goal this season. Toronto have scored 30 goals from their 17 matches which sees them as the fifth-best offensive side in the competition.
While their attacking players have been firing, you can also point to the side's defensive efforts when looking at the Reds' success this season. Their record of fifteen goals from seventeen matches sees them level with Dallas as the competition's second best and if they continue in this form you may even see them raising the Supporters' Shield for the first time in the clubs short history.
While on current form the match looks to be an easy one to pick, be very wary of the side's home and away form when placing a bet on this match. While Toronto FC have one of the best records in the MLS in front of their home fans (7-2-0), their away record is somewhat less impressive at 3-3-2 with just nine goals from those eight matches on the road.
FC Dallas have a 4-3-1 record at Toyota Stadium and are coming off a win in the Open Cup, so they will be reasonably confident of a solid performance in spite of their MLS form. You only need to look back at Toronto's 3-0 loss away to New England to see how things can unravel for them away from BMO Field. It will be an interesting match and my tip is a 1-0 victory to the away side.Toronto FC to win the game +275
MLS Soccer Picks This Week
As always there are a number of great fixtures in the MLS this weekend and Saturday sees a total of seven matches being played. The Chicago Fire will be looking to keep the pressure on Toronto FC at the top of the standings when they host a Vancouver side that has struggled to find consistency this season. The Whitecaps are coming off back-to-back draws in the league and will be up against it when they face the Fire who are having an incredible season.
- Chicago should win this one comfortably
The rivalry between San Jose and LA Galaxy is set to increase in July as they clash both this Saturday night and also in the quarter-finals of the Open Cup on July 10th. The Earthquakes will be hosting both matches, although this will not faze the Galaxy who recorded a big 4-2 victory against their Californian neighbours in the most recent encounter at Avaya Stadium. This will be a great match to watch and I am predicting another high-scoring affair with San Jose to reverse the last result against LA and take the three points.
- Take the over 2.5 goals with no hesitation
Don't forget that there are always a stack of options available when betting on the MLS and it does not stop at head-to-head odds. Now is the perfect time to place a bet on the Supporters Shield futures line as we are about midway through the season and the true contenders have revealed themselves. It is also a great time to bet on the top goalscorer for the season - Giovinco has a lot of ground to make up which means you can get fantastic odds if you are willing to take a gamble!
