Champions League Picks April 19, 2017
On Wednesday April 19th, at 2:45pm the last Champions League quarterfinals matches will take place as Juventus defend a 3 goal lead and Monaco have 3 away goals to their name.
Barcelona Juventus Game 2 Preview
As accurately predicted here last week, Juventus, our Golden goose of the season, took Barcelona to the woodshed. They capitalized on some lazy defending and were aided by a fantastic save from Buffon and now take a 3-0 advantage to the Camp Nou.
Now for the life of me, knowing how well Juventus can defend a lead and being fully aware that Barcelona just overcame the greatest single game deficit ever last round vs PSG, I must admit - I have no clue what will happen in the 2nd leg on Wednesday.
STAY AWAY (No Bet)
Over, Under, Barcelona, Juventus and Draw are all in play. This is a classic game to avoid. The sheer rarity of Barcelona being so poor defensively and having to overcome huge deficits puts all the variables in play, variables that one wants to have minimized when betting actual money.
Monaco Dortmund Game 2 Preview
Handicapping human emotion is impossible, but how Dortmund played in the first half of last week's game less than 24 hours after having their team bus attacked was easily understood.
Who cares about football when the players themselves are just lucky to be alive?
That being said, they were made to play the game anyway and, right or wrong, the chips fell in Monaco's favor. Now these two prolific teams finish the tie, and having gone over 3.5 and 4.5 goals with their exciting 3-2 final last week, I can not dissuade you from betting on goals once again. However, there is better value to be had.
Once again, if Dortmund respond with an emotional, gut-check performance that overcomes the deficit and advances them to the semis than it will be looked upon as heroic indeed.
But with the German team having been poor away, and Monaco being fantastic at home all season I simply must take Monaco at home giving this price.
Dortmund have to chase the game meaning tons of counter-attacking opportunity for Monaco, which can turn out disastrous for Tuchel's men.
