Champions League: Celtic vs Barcelona Odds, Prediction and Live Score

Champions League: Celtic vs Barcelona Odds, Prediction and Live Score

My Team's Next MatchBarcelona

In matchday 1 reprise of the Champions League, Barcelona face Brendan Rodgers' Celtic FC and there are some oddly similar circumstances surrounding that match and this one:

It was just after an international break, as this match is.

Barcelona rested their stars and dropped points at home to CD Alaves just as they just did to Malaga in La Liga this past weekend.

Barcelona responded that day by thumping Celtic 7-0.

Sometimes the only thing you can do to feel better is deliver a beating. Barcelona will be in no mood to stand on ceremony.

Admittedly, Celtic have an improved defensive record over the past couple of months. Since playing a 3-3 thriller against Man City at the end of September, Celtic have kept seven straight clean sheets in domestic competition. But, and it should go without saying, the competition in Scotland is not comparable to what an angry Barcelona can do.

And being that the Catalans only sit atop the group by two points, they won't have the luxury of sitting around. They'll look to strike early. And once in control of the game, they'll score enough to cover this line.

Celtic will be capable of finding the back of the net, just not as much as their opposition. This leaves plenty of margin for error with this play.

Barcelona, a Fascinating Case Study in Globalization

Results / FixturesBarcelona

Because Barcelona have built this current squad around the 3 best South American forwards in the world, it presents them with an interesting conundrum. Because they are each the best player for 3 different countries there is no chance their national squads will ever rest them during qualifying matches; the simply cannot afford to.

So Barcelona are then burdened with the duty of giving them games off so that they do not burn out. Last season MSN wore down late in the season and it derailed their Champions League campaign and nearly cost them La Liga as well.
