What happened in 1978? Pierre Elliott Trudeau was Canada’s Prime Minster, Jimmy Carter was President of the Untied States, Dallas beat Denver in Super Bowl XII, the Yankees won the World Series over the Dodgers, Washington won their first and only NBA title versus Seattle, and Montreal took out Boston to captured the Stanley Cup. Oh, and a horse named Affirmed won the Triple Crown of horse racing – a feat that hasn’t been repeated since.

Could this be the year? Horse racing fans have been waiting a long time since Affirmed charged to victory in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, and then the Belmont Stakes way back in 1973. The Run for the Roses, with it’s post-time slated for 6:24 PM ET on May 3, 2014, from historic Churchill Downs, will deliver us this year’s Championship hopeful as one of the 19 thoroughbreds will capture the first jewel in the Triple Crown.
