Western Conference clubs dominate Stanley Cup chalk list

Led by the Chicago Blackhawks, NHL Western Conference teams own seven of the top ten futures prices to win the Stanley Cup - in about nine months from now. The Hawks are far and away the odds on favourites as they will carry 13/2 (+650 ML) odds into the regular season. Perennial chalk Boston and the 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Kings are tied for second with 10/1 (+1000 ML) odds. Anaheim, Pittsburgh and St. Louis round out the top six as they are posted with a 12/1 (+1200 ML) price. If the Ducks get decent goaltending - they will tough to beat.

Upstart squads round out top end of NHL Championship betting lines

A couple of upstart Western Conference squads are included in the top ten favourites list as the Minnesota Wild (16/1) and the Colorado Avalanche (18/1) are both worthy of consideration. The Wild are a stacked on their blue line but have goaltending questions while the young Avalanche are just plain stacked across the board. Colorado, with young stars such as Matt Duchene, Nathan MacKinnon and Ryan O'Reilly, plus veterans like Jarome Ignila and Daniel Briere, may roll the best four lines in the NHL. If goaltender Semyon Valarnov can hold up between the pipes - the Avalanche could very well capture their first Stanley Cup since the 2000-01 NHL season.

Federal Justice System Passes Single Bet Bill, But There's Still Work to be Done

The amended C-218 bill to legalize single-game sports betting in Canada was unanimously passed yesterday. While it feels like this is a step in the right direction, there are still some barriers blocking citizens from gaining access to comprehensive online wagering.

The amendment to the bill was passed, excluding one slight alteration that the committee of Justice and Human Rights decided to change, which would have allowed Canadians to bet on horse racing markets.
