Who's favourite to win grand national
When you have a horse race that could feature up to 40 horses, it's certainly overwhelming as a bettor. But fear not because the same rules apply regardless of field size. For my money, we've got to land on a horse that has a good shot to win and offers us fair to excellent wagering value.
With this in mind, I'm immediately tossing 2018 Grand National winner Tiger Roll who is the heavy favorite to repeat in 2019 at the unappealing odds of +400. It's not that I don't fancy Tiger Shark, it's just that I can't fancy him at this price with so many other options available.
Best Picks of the Grand National 2019
Pleasant Company +2500 is one of a bevy of runners listed at +2500 on Bodog, and this classy 11 year-old has a legitimate shot again after falling just a head short to Tiger Roll in 2018. His best race is clearly good enough to get the job done and this price sounds about right.
Rathvinden +1100 has always shown a liking for distance and will get plenty of it in the Grand National. The price is probably a bit shorter than ideal, but it's good enough considering his legitimate chances of upsetting the favorite.
Step Back +3300 is another horse that relishes marathon distances and seems to be rounding into top form. This horse has shown a liking for the local footing and everything about this price is right.
