Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz fight prediction

Although Wilder has been making more noise recently, Anthony Joshua still remains the top heavyweight boxer in the world today. As such, Joshua's odds have leaned heavily towards him. He has been at least a 10-1 favourite in his last five fights and this is no different.

Plenty of the boxing odds favour Joshua because of hype. This isn't to say he is not a great boxer. He is. But the division is also weak. Joshua has the physical gifts (6'6", 82" reach), the maturity, and the ever-evolving skills to make him an all-time great. But he has yet to be tested by another boxer in his calibre.

Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz betting odds02

His opponent is not one of those boxers. Andy Ruiz odds aren't great as he is taking this boxing match on short notice (he just fought on April 20). He is much smaller (6'2", 74" reach) and isn't as polished. Although he packs a hard punch, is incredibly tough, and very aggressive.

At these odds, there is little value in Joshua as he is not invincible. If he gets caught, he can get hurt. His chin isn't tested and we haven't seen him dig himself out of tough spots, unlike Wilder.

Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz Picks

There are times when boxing odds are based completely on hype and are totally off. But this is not one of those moments.

While you may get a hankering to shut the Joshua hype train up, he is a vastly superior boxer than Ruiz in this juncture.

The only thing Ruiz has over Joshua is durability. Ruiz has a head like a coconut and he will take as much punishment as he can. He will go the distance with boxing's most gifted athlete.

With that said, Joshua should use his length and speed to piece apart Ruiz. He will outpoint him for the majority of the fight and if there is a finish, he will take it. Ruiz has a suspect gas tank and could start wearing down from the sixth round onwards.

Expect Joshua to chip away at Ruiz before finishing him some time before the eighth round.

Anthony Joshua

One quick look through Joshua's recent fights shows why he's a massive favourite each time: he just blows away the competition. And plenty of the boxers he beats like Povetkin, Parker, and Klitschko are grizzled veterans with extensive resumes.

Joshua is a finisher and a bet on him to finish the fight is usually juiced.

Andy Ruiz

Ruiz only has one blemish on his record: a majority decision loss to Parker (who Joshua beat but couldn't finish). It was a close fight as Ruiz seemingly won the first half of the match, but ran out of gas and couldn't prevent Parker from rallying.

The Mexican-American has power although he doesn't have as many knockouts as Joshua. He also doesn't have many championship match experience.
