2018 Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf
To complicate matters a few weeks out from the Nov.2 race date, several of the European runners are still unconfirmed for a start in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. One runner who looks quite likely to make an appearance in Louisville is the favorite Wild Illusion (+275).
This top-class filly trained by Charles Appleby was last seen winning the Prix de l'Opera October 7 in France, following her win in the Qatar Nassau - both Group 1 races. While she does have the credentials to be a solid pick in this race, the field is simply too deep and talented to take this short a number on any runner.

Picks at a price
So often, horse racing is about which runner is peaking at the exact time the race happens to be run. Past performance predicts effort to be sure, but every bettor must be keenly aware of which horse seems to be coming into the race ready to fire its best effort. For me, it's going to be hard to find a horse doing any better than Rushing Fall who sits on the board an an appealing +1000.
If you were watching the weekend Breeders' Cup prep races closely at all Oct.13, Rushing Fall's Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II victory at Keeneland was ultra-impressive. The Chad Brown-trained runner showed a new dimension to her game, breaking straight for the lead and unleashing an impressive turn of foot in the stretch to win comfortably against a solid group of 3 year-old fillies.
The Breeders' Cup Distaff will represent better competition, but everything Rushing Fall has done in her brilliant 7-race career suggests she's ready for the biggest stage.
She's won 6 of those starts, suffering her lone loss by a nose in the Edgewood Stakes in May. Rushing Fall appears to have come back better than ever in her last two starts and will look to add another Breeders' Cup win to her resume after capturing last year's Juvenile Turf Fillies event at Del Mar.
