Jaguars at Patriots Odds, Picks, Live Score 2018 AFC Championship

Patriots vs Jaguars AFC Championship Preview

Tuned into New England and Jacksonville, thanks to many months of AFC futures odds research at top rated online sportsbooks, here are our thoughts on the Patriots vs Jaguars title match. Building on their mountain of playoff records, with a win during their 14th AFC Championship appearance, New England will advance to their tenth Super Bowl. Following failed attempts, in 1997 and 2000, this is Jacksonville’s third shot at an AFC crown. The Cats are two-score dogs versus the Champs.

Tom Brady Injury Line Moves: Tom Brady practiced on 19/01/18 and will be good to go on Sunday. Some bookmakers moved their lines - but then added juice to the price. Check Alternate Lines when betting on this contest for the sharpest odds. Bodog has a Patriots -330 ML and we are taking it.

Out of character, and perhaps partly due to a well-deserved lingering Super Bowl LI hangover, New England opened the 2017 NFL season with a 2-2 record. The losses, both at home, were a 42-27 Week 1 clubbing by Kansas City and a close 33-30 contest vs Carolina. An unfocused 27-20 Week 14 loss in Miami was the lone blemish as the Patriots closed their season on a 11-1 roll. The Pats outscored their opponents by a 277-131 margin since their BYE in Week 9. After a Wild Card Weekend BYE, the Belichick-Brady Bunch trashed the Titans 35-14 in their Divisional playoff duel.

Now beyond a "happy to be here" mood, Jacksonville is making the most of their first playoff appearance since 2008. Following a 10-6 regular season, their first winning record in a decade, Jacksonville struggled some but managed to beat the Bills 10-3 at home in the Wild Card round. Tying their season high points production, posted during a 45-7 Week 15 home win over Houston, the Jaguars put away Pittsburgh with a 45-42 Divisional round win. Rookie RB Leonard Fournette tallied 119 total yards and three scores in a game that was not as close as the score indicates.

Weather Update: Near perfect conditions, mostly sunny and 44°F / 7°C, is advantage Patriots.

FINAL SCORE: New England 24-20 Betting Results: Jaguars ATS & Patriots S/U & UNDER

Moneyline: Patriots -330 MLBodog

As was the case last weekend, New England is a big money favorite while the Jaguars are straight up pups. Shopping for the best prices is important as the lines vary from book to book. Although we are not totally sure why, Bodog is offering Patriots backers a line that is way lower than most other books. Priced at an average of (-420) at many sportsbooks, Bodog linemakers currently have New England listed as -380 ML chalk. Jacksonville betting fans should move away from the Jaguars (+280) price at Bodog as a Jacksonville SU win can be bought for (+310) at SportsInteraction.

Beyond the main markets, there are of lots of money line betting options being offered at top NFL online wagering websites. Bet365 is offering "Multi Touchdown Scorers" prop that has peaked our interest as Patriots stud TE Rob Gronkowski is priced at (+350) to score two or more touchdowns. Gronk had a pair of two TD days during the regular season. Handicappers feeling the Patriots will dominate this match can invest in (+240) money line odds at SportsInteraction on New England winning three of the four quarters. Those are appetizers - prior to the Super Bowl LII prop feast.

Bankers Note: Heavily invested in Patriots futures? Consider a Jaguars money line hedge wager. We were able to lock in our Bodog money line ticket at -330 ML odds on 19/01/18 at 12:35 PM ET.

Point Spread: Patriots -8.5 (-110) ATSSIA

Giving up a ton of points again this weekend, though not quite as high as the -13 (-110) ATS line vs Tennessee, New England is a two score favorite in the 2018 AFC Championship. Posted as nine point chalk at most books, bettors can get the Patriots at -8.5 (-110) at SportsInteraction - without paying extra juice. During their 2015 and 2017 AFC Championship victories, New England totally obliterated Indianapolis (45-7) and Pittsburgh (36-17) in matches played at Gillette Stadium. Bettors feeling Tom Brady does the same thing to the Jaguars can bet the Pats at -13.5 (+150) at Bet365.

After failing to cover as -8.5 ATS chalk during their Wild Card win versus Buffalo, Jacksonville rolled into Pittsburgh as +7.5 point pups last Sunday. While we were wrong thinking Pittsburgh would win straight up, on their home turf, we cashed with the Jaguars against the spread. Jacksonville backers need to be concerned that the Jaguars vaunted defence allowed 462 passing yards and five touchdowns versus the Steelers. Loaded with plenty of weapons, including equally solid rushing and passing attacks, New England torched a decent Tennessee defense with 438 total yards and five TD.

Totals: OVER 46 (-110) O/UBet635

Considering the last two AFC title fights, played out in Foxborough, ended with final scores totalling 53 and 52 points, it is not surprising to see a high Over/Under line on this match. Posted at a mostly consensus 46 total points, bettor's need to decide if the Jaguars defense will play like they did in the first quarter vs Pittsburgh (0 points allowed) or the one that gave up six touchdowns over the final three quarters. Four of Jacksonville's last six contests have exceeded the number while four of the Patriots last five fixtures have ended in a combined final score above the total on this matchup.

During the past decade, apart from the Patriots two big wins, plus the Colts 30-17 victory versus the New York Jets in 2010, the other seven AFC Championship games have stayed below 46 points. New England played in five of those title fights that ended with 33, 38, 41, 42 and 43 points being scored. Six of New England's last nine matches at home have resulted in a final score of at least 52 points while just three of the Jaguars last nine battles as visitors have pushed past the number here. Famous for their variety, CSB top ranked sportsbooks also offer alternative game total prices.

Canadians Can Bet On NFL Championship Action

New England vs Jacksonville is draped with a ton of stark contrasts and none are starker than the quarterback comparison. Tom Brady is playing in his 12th AFC title game and he owns an 7-4 record that includes a 6-1 mark in contests played at Gillette Stadium. Brady is also making his 36th playoff start as he looks to build on his 26-9 record and 66 postseason touchdown passes. Jaguars QB Blake Bortles is making his third playoff start. Coaching will also be a factor as no one prepares their team better than Bill Belichick. Plus, Gillette Stadium is a graveyard for late January visitors.

Sports fans love two Championship clashes during a short span of time - the NHL and NBA title chases are a classic example. However, when they play out on the same day, switch to full power and rip the knob off. Canadians wanting to bet on the Patriots vs Jaguars contest, or the Eagles vs Vikings NFC title fight, are reminded that government sports lottery schemes do not allow single bets. They also don't match the cornucopia of props options or LIVE wagering offered by online bookmakers. Make your first choice a winner by betting with these world-famous sportsbooks.

Closing Thoughts & Bottom Line: Mostly ancient history, New England is 10-1 SU and 7-4 ATS all-time vs Jacksonville. Those numbers include a 7-0 mark at home, by a 220-91 combined margin, and the Pats won six of those by at least eleven points. Played in New England, the Pats won the last meeting (27/09/15) by a 51-17 count. As with our TEN vs NEP pick - Rob Gronkowski, Brady and Belichick are difference makers in this match. Back New England SU, ATS and OVER here.
