2017 Kentucky Derby: Top 10 Twitter Accounts To Follow

2017 Kentucky Derby: Top 10 Twitter Accounts To Follow

#1 Kentucky Derby

While official sites may not hold any of the more subtle hints, Churchill does a great job keeping its Kentucky Derby followers in the loop with this handle. You can catch all the latest workouts and cool videos profiling runners, jockeys, trainers and owners. This is arguably a good place to start for basic Derby news. @KentuckyDerby

#2 T.A. Pletcher

Ok, so this one's a faux account, but the parodies of world class trainer Todd Pletcher are priceless. Whoever operates this handle is a comedic genius and definitely knows the lay of the land in racing. If you're new to the game, Todd Pletcher is the suave, white-haird, well-dressed trainer who wins tons of races throughout the year and always rolls into Louisville with several qualified entrants. This year Pletcher will start Patch, Always Dreaming, and Tapwrit. @NotTheToddster

#3 Paul Lo Duca

Former Major League Baseball all-star catcher turned full-time horse racing analyst for the TVG network, Lo Duca is a good handicapper and offers plenty of colorful insights - both racing and personal - on his Twitter account. He's a great follow and guys, don't feel bad if you envy his life a little. @paulloduca16

#4 Mike Watchmaker

Another good handicapper and personality, Mike Watchmaker has a lot of passion and usually lays out interesting opinions on the latest in horse racing. Be prepared for a little hyperbole, but this guy knows his stuff and rarely pulls punches. In case you're wondering, Mike isn't too keen on this year's Derby contenders.

#5 Graham Motion

Motion trained Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom in 2011 and will saddle Irish War Cry this year who should be one of the top three betting choices. Motion's Twitter account is one of the more active and contains frequent updates on his runners. It's nice to hear how things are going from the backside when you're a serious bettor. @GrahamMotion

#6 Dale Romans

Romans is another trainer with a solid Twitter presence. A known cut-up, Romans has posted several videos and updates of his 2017 KY Derby hopeful J Boys Echo. On April 26, Romans broke the news via Twitter that jockey Luis Saez would ride J Boys Echo and also Tweeted out his concern for fallen jocky Robby Albarado a few days earlier. @Romansracing

#7 Britney Eurton

The daughter of California-based trainer Peter Eurton, Britney has made a name for herself the last few years as one of TVG's best on-air talents. It doesn't hurt that Eurton is easy on the eyes, but she's far more than just a pretty face. This brunette beauty has a knack for breaking big stories and asks insightful interview questions that help bettors get a feel for what's happening behind the scenes. @BritneyEurton

#8 Doug O'Neill

O'Neill is another trainer to follow as his Twitter account is always lively. This guy is a true gentleman and his easy-going personality and wit provide great content. He's also one of the more high profile guys in the game and his won the Kentucky Derby twice in recent years with I'll Have Another in 2012 and Nyquist in 2016. This year O'Neill will saddle Bluegrass Stakes winner Irap in the Run for the Roses. @DougONeill

#9 Frank Mirahmadi

Long-time race caller and funny man, Frank Mirahmadi probably deserves a slot higher on this list. Check out Mirahmadi's impressions on YouTube next time you need a laugh. As for this guy's Twitter handle, he's always throwing out some good picks, good humor or good observations. Glad he's calling races at Golden Gate after his departure from Oaklawn Park. @FrankMirahmadi

#10 Matt Bernier

One of the younger guys covering racing, Matt Bernier isn't a millennial, but might actually have the best chance to connect with a younger audience. As an employee of DRF, Bernier hosts a weekly handicapping show and has a no-nonsense style thrown in with a little levity. @bernier_matt
