155th Queen's Plate: Woodbine Racetrack Opens Canadian Triple Crown Series
We Miss Arti: Aiming for better Canadian Triple Crown result
After a disappointing tenth place finish in the 2014 Kentucky Derby, Todd Fletcher trained We Miss Artie appears to be back in form after an impressive win in the $150k Plate Trail at Woodbibne on June 15, 2014. Running under cover and riding the rail for most of the final prep race prior to the Queen's Plate, We Miss Ardie zipped through a hole as the horses made the turn for home and tracked down Majestic Sun in the stretch to win by a length. It was an impressive run as jockey Javier Castellano needed just a hand ride on this impressive 3-year old bay colt who is now 3-0 when racing on synthetic surfaces. Castellano is slated to be back in the irons for the Queen's Plate.
Top trainer Reade Baker brings a pair of Bears to the Queen's Plate
After recording his 1,000th win as a trainer in the first race on June 15, 2014, at Woodbine, Reade Baker from Bear Stables brings stablemates Asserting Bear and Man o’ Bear into the Queen's Plate. Asserting Bear and Jose Carroll trained colt Ami's Holiday will clash for the first time since they battled in the $125K G3 Marine Stakes that went 8.5 furlongs at Woobine on May 25. In that thrilling race, Asserting Bear crossed the line first but was placed third after race officials deemed he impeded Ami's Holiday halfway down the stretch run. It was controversial call but, after watching the replay, we feel the decision was proper. Head to the Racebook at SportsInteraction prior to post time at 5:38 PM ET on July 6, 2014, to receive live track odds and place your wagers on this Canadian Triple Crown jewel. In the meantime, here are the Post Positions for the 155th running of the Queen’s Plate Stakes.

Canada has never won an Olympic medal in women's beach volleyball. That is all expected to change at the Tokyo Summer Games. Since teaming up in the spring of 2017, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan have been one of the top teams on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. In 2019, they made history as Canada’s first-ever world champions in beach volleyball. They're also among the favourites to win a medal in Tokyo.
The total of gold medals won by Canada at the upcoming Tokyo Summer Olympic Games has been set at 4.5. Online sportsbooks are favouring the under as the play to make and history suggests that is the logical path to follow. Canadians brought home four gold medals from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympiad. The last time Canada won more than four gold medals was at Barcelona in 1992.
Cynicism created by the controversies at various Summer Olympics is overshadowed by incredible athletic achievements witnessed by the world. Each time the Olympiad arrives, women and men push the boundaries of what’s possible in terms of the strength, endurance and agility of human physiology. Adding to these amazing accomplishments, the Olympics have also been an event where human rights advancements are showcased...
Especially for women and athletes struggling against racial prejudice. Arguably the second biggest sporting event behind the FIFA World Cup, the Summer Olympics is a tradition with roots that stretch back thousands of years.
