Can The Senators Erase The Embarrassment From Last Night?

Can The Senators Erase The Embarrassment From Last Night?

How Does Ottawa Respond To Getting Their Butts Handed To Them?

My Team's Next MatchOttawa Senators

There really is no sugar-coating Ottawa's loss last night and sometimes you've just got to write-off games like that to just having a bad night. It didn't start out horrible as the Senators got to the 1st intermission down 1-0, but the floodgates opened up in the 2nd period with Chicago scoring five times and from there it was just mop-up time for both teams. After a pair of wins where they scored six goals each time, the loss had to be a bit demoralizing for this Sens team, but the good news is they are right back at it tonight and get a chance for redemption.

Ottawa is in Toronto tonight and Ottawa is actually 1-0 SU vs. Toronto this year. That was a 6-3 win back in mid-October for the Sens, and while the two teams have gone in much different directions since then, Ottawa does have some good recent history against thier Ontario rivals. The Senators have won three in a row against Toronto and five of the past six meetings overall. That kind of head-to-head recent history combined with the large ML odds and the notion that nobody is going to want to back Ottawa to win after last night makes a play on the Senators on the money line awfully temping from where I'm sitting.

Ottawa Senators Vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Odds

Ottawa (+175) vs. Toronto (-210): Total: 6

In today's "what have you done for me lately" world there is no question that Ottawa backers will be in the minority tonight after bettors saw what they did from the team 24 hours ago. But the Leafs last outing on Monday night could be described in a similarily negative fashion as they blew a 2-0 lead late in the 3rd period to lose in OT vs Columbus. The inability to close was a major issue for Toronto a season ago, and while there have been improvements in that regard, as we saw on Monday, it can still pop up here and there.

That's not the type of concern you want from a team if you are laying -200ish chalk on them against any opponent. I get that Ottawa was atrocious last night and has been bad for much of the year, but the Sens want nothing more than to erase last night's memories in a hurry and will be somewhat of a live 'dog' at this price tonight.

Ottawa Vs. Toronto Selection: Under 6 Goals

As tempting as taking the Ottawa side on the ML is tonight - and I do believe it's a play on Ottawa ML or nothing there - I do believe the total is the "safer" option tonight as we should see a defensive-minded battle for the majority of this one. Both teams, especially Ottawa, have had trouble defensively of late, and if results are going to change for either side, they've both got to lock things down in their own end for the full 60 minutes.

This total of 6 has been influenced by Ottawa being a hot 'over' team of late and the fact that they did just let in eight tallies last night. Toronto's offense is one of the best in the league and when the majority of bettors see a talented team like that line up against a team that just gave up 8 goals, lightbulbs flash for the high side of this total. But with Toronto 5-0-1 to the 'under'  in their last six division games and Ottawa 7-3 to the under in their last 10 against division foes, don't expect this game to have more than 5 goals scored.
