NHL Playoff Predictions: Ducks vs Predators Game 2

NHL Playoff Predictions: Ducks vs Predators Game 2

NHL Western Conference Finals Game 1 Review

Anaheim lost home ice advantage during a ferocious Game 1 fight. Although the “hit count” was recorded at just 28-27 in favour of the SoCal Crew - bodies were being pasted to the boards and falling down everywhere from start to finish in this contest. Need an example? Check out the first eleven seconds of the video below. Nashville was the fresher squad as they outshot Anaheim 15-6 in the first period, plus 7-2 in OT, and James Neal scored the winner 9:24 into the extra frame.

My Team's Next MatchAnaheim Ducks

A Game 1 victory is a solid start, during the first of a seven-game battle, but it doesn’t guarantee an NHL playoff series win. Both teams will be cognizant of that fact when they hit the Duck Pond for Game 2 action. It is kind of ironic that John Gibson suffered a loss during one of his better efforts in the postseason as he stopped 43 of the 46 shots the Preds pounded at him. At the other end of the rink, Pekka Rinne was mostly solid as he turned away 27 of the 29 pucks delivered by the Ducks.

Anaheim Ducks (Pacific Division #1 Seed) vs. Nashville Predators (West Wild Card #2 Seed)

Anaheim Ducks vs Nashville Predators Game 2 Preview and Prediction

While they are not our favorite regular season team, Anaheim opened the postseason as our Cup favorite in the West. However, as our For and Against video illustrates, there are times when it’s best to step away from preferred teams. Digging a hole, just as they did against Edmonton when they dropped their semifinal series opener, the Ducks could use some of the Disney magic they found versus the Oilers. That said, it’s a concern that the well may be running dry since Anaheim has certainly had their fair share of miracle wins so far during the 2017 NHL second season.

Sporting a minuscule 1.45 goals against per game mark, through eleven contests, it is difficult to argue against the Predators being the best defensive squad left in the playoffs. We have all heard, many times, what good defense does. By comparison, Anaheim is allowing more than double the scoring as John Gibson is averaging 3.08 GPG. Not exactly “lights out” the Predators offense has been productive as the Music City Crew is averaging 2.82 goals for per game. Shutdown defense and timely scoring is a tried and true recipe for winning battles in the National Hockey League.

120 Unit Anaheim Ducks (-120) Money Line Bet William Hill

Unfazed by the Predators solid performance, William Hill bookmakers have Anaheim as slim chalk for Game 2 of this West showdown. The Ducks can’t afford to give up forty plus shots again while the Predators will look to continue their containment Anaheim’s top line that includes Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry who were pointless in Game 1. Nashville played at an elite level on Friday while Anaheim looked sluggish coming off short rest after their series with Edmonton. We are backing the Ducks to bounce back with a 120 unit wager on the William Hill (-120) money line today.

2017 Odds To Win The Stanley Cup Fututres Update

Nashville entered the Western Conference Finals as (-147) chalk to win the series but they were third overall with a (+333) NHL title price while Anaheim was the second favorites with a (+240) money line. The Predators and Ducks went in opposite directions on the William Hill Stanley Cup futures board following their 3-2 OT win during Game 1. The Music City Crew are now top chalk with a (+188) line while the SoCal Crew have dropped to fourth favorites with a (+450) Cup line.

Following their shocking Eastern Conference Game 1 loss, 2-1 in overtime, Pittsburgh has tumbled out of the top favorite slot as the Penguins are now second overall with a (+210) price. Ottawa continues to be the Canadian Cardiac Kids as they are now 6-1 during seven OT games in the 2017 NHL playoffs. The Senators win moved their NHL title price from (+500) to (+300) and pushed the Sens past Anaheim into the third chalk position. Intrigue is back in the NHL Conference Finals.
