NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Leafs Blow Out The Islanders Again?

Toronto manhandled the Islanders during the previous meeting between these teams, but circumstances have changed this season. Turns out New York has one of the best groups of young forwards in the NHL, who mesh well with star John Tavares, creating an elite, explosive offense.

The Maple Leafs experienced their own breakout campaign last year, when Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander emerged from nowhere to run circles around most NHL squads. This season, expectations of excellence will push Toronto’s franchise to morph into the type of team which is prepared for a long playoff run.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Islanders at Maple Leafs – Bet Toronto SU (-205)

The Toronto Maple Leafs pulled themselves together before the all-star break, beating Dallas and Chicago during a tough back-to-back on the road. Toronto accomplished this impressive result without two of their top defenseman, Morgan Rielly and Nikita Zaitsev, showing a defensive resilience they didn’t possess earlier in January. New York features an impressive offense, but their young guns haven’t learned to play great defense while Islanders goalie Halak suffers through a down year.

Toronto destroyed the Isles 7-1 during their last meeting, and New York travels to the Air Canada Centre on less than a day rest, but the Isles likely won’t give up another ridiculous blowout.

Flyers at Capitals – Bet Washington SU (-150)

Washington’s one of the deadliest home teams in the NHL, earning an 18-7-1 mark in the U.S. capitol. The Capitals have also won six of their last ten, coasting into the weekend as the top team in the competitive Metropolitan Division. Philly and Washington have split their last ten meetings, although the Flyers have won two in a row this season, including a 2-1 overtime win the last time Philadelphia traveled to Capitals territory. For tonight’s meeting, expect Washington to earn a revenge victory over the Flyers.

Sharks at Red Wings – Bet San Jose SU (-115)

Detroit should have a sizable advantage against San Jose this evening, playing at home against a Sharks team which lost big against the Penguins last night. Despite home ice and rest advantage, few believe that the Red Wings should be considered favorites. As a result, the Sharks are listed at -115 while Detroit has a -105 moneyline. Despite these moneylines, the Sharks are puckline underdogs, suggesting that the sharp money moved San Jose’s line. Bet on San Jose salvaging a close win against Detroit.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Toronto Maple Leafs Beat Puckline Against New York Islanders (-1.5, +135)

Toronto’s beaten the puckline only once in January, a strange 4-1 win against an unmotivated Dallas squad in Texas. The Leafs haven’t been winning big lately, the main reason the puckline represents a significant risk. Otherwise, all signs point to a relatively easy win for the Leafs. Toronto smoked New York the last time they played, and the Islanders face a schedule loss for this edition of the rivalry. If you want to improve your winnings for tonight’s Leaf game, select the Toronto puckline.
