NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Maple Leafs Escape Loss Against The Avalanche?

After breaking a nasty little four-game losing streak, the Toronto Maple Leafs will host the Colorado Avalanche, who started Toronto’s losing trend before the new year. Along with the Golden Knights, the Avalanche have become one of the breakout teams in 2017-18. Toronto needs to mark Nathan MacKinnon closely or risk losing the season series.

Calgary’s winning streak was broken after they took a week off, and now they look to regain their momentum against one of the worst teams in the eastern conference. The Buffalo Sabres will remain in the forefront of the race for first overall in the 2018 draft, giving Calgary a great chance at beginning a new victory march.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Avalanche at Maple Leafs: Bet Toronto SU (-170)

Toronto’s swoon started against the Avalanche the last time they met at the Air Canada Centre. Similar to most of Toronto’s losses over the past few weeks, Colorado defeated the Maple Leafs in overtime. Colorado’s one of the pleasant surprises in the NHL, winning nine in a row to hoist the mantle of hottest team in the NHL. Eight of those victories were at home, and the Leafs finally showed some mojo after breaking a losing streak against Ottawa on Saturday. Expect the Leafs to scratch out a close win.

Senators at Minnesota: Bet Minnesota Puckline (+140)

The Wild have beaten the Senators three times in a row, including two consecutive puckline victories over Ottawa. Other than an overtime loss against the Canucks, the Wild have taken care of business lately, beating Tampa Bay, Winnipeg and Chicago. The Senators have improved since their nadir in December, but they’re no match for Minnesota firing on all cylinders. A -220 moneyline for a Wild win represents an expensive bet.

After victories against the Lightning and Winnipeg by two or more goals, there’s no reason the Wild can’t repeat a puckline win against a struggling team at the bottom of the eastern conference.

Sabres at Flames: Bet Calgary Puckline (+130)

Buffalo’s played Calgary tough over the past couple of years, earning a couple of wins against a superior Flames squad. Calgary’s playing their best hockey in a long time, rising to third place in the Pacific Division with seven wins in their last ten games. After the Jets broke Calgary’s seven-game winning streak, the Flames will look to take out their anger against a Buffalo squad that doesn’t have much going these days, other than a great shot at first overall in the draft. Select Calgary’s puckline for extra profit.

Lightning at Blackhawks: Bet Chicago SU (+100)

Tampa Bay’s in the middle of their mandated slump, a period of time which most NHL teams endure during the long regular season. The Lightning have given up 14 goals in their last three games without Victor Hedman, whose absence speaks loudly over this losing streak. Chicago’s missing Corey Crawford, part of the reason the Blackhawks were blown out 7-3 by the Isles the last time they hit the ice. Chicago’s home advantage will turn out to be the difference for this matchup, which usually results in one goal games.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Arizona Coyotes Beat New York Islanders SU (+110)

Betting on Arizona’s a risky proposition this season, even if they’ve been playing better as of late. The ‘Yotes recently dismantled the St. Louis Blues, and earned points against the Sharks and Predators. New York typically doesn’t play well on the road, with an 11-13-1 mark this year. The Coyotes have split the last four meetings with the Isles, all of them one-goal games. Both wins occurred in the desert, giving Arizona a solid chance at pulling off the moneyline upset.
