NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Maple Leafs Break Slump Against Ottawa?

The Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t had much success against the Ottawa Senators over the past few years. Sure, the Senators cannot defeat the Leafs in the playoffs, but regular season meetings have mostly favored Ottawa. As the Leafs shrug into the second half of the season, the Sens will seek to build momentum.

Ottawa wore the glass slippers last season, progressing to one game away from the Stanley Cup finals after playing questionable hockey to begin the 2016-17 season. If the Senators wish to repeat an impressive turnaround, now would be the best time to start.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Jets at Flames – Bet Flame SU (-135)

Hockey Day In Canada kicks off with the best pair of Canadian teams in the NHL. Calgary's the hottest Canadian team at the moment, earned their week off by capping a seven-game win streak against Carolina. Winnipeg lost two in a row before their time away from the ice, but they’re still second in the Central Division. The Flames lit the Jets up in early October, beating Winnipeg 6-3. Calgary's exhibited a big advantage over Winnipeg lately, with the Flames enjoying puckline victories in five of their last six meetings.

Calgary will have home advantage and fewer injuries heading into this clash, so choose the Flames for a straight up win.

Maple Leafs at Senators – Bet Ottawa SU (+120)

At this point in their losing streak, it’s difficult to say whether the Toronto Maple Leafs are playing better hockey than the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs keep giving away wins, losing four one-goal games in a row, including a 4-3 home loss against Ottawa on January 10th. This was the Senators fourth win over Toronto in a row, and the ninth victory in the last ten meetings between these teams. Ottawa will enjoy home advantage and have a better record than the Leafs over the last ten games.

Toronto’s also dealing with injuries to Rielly and Zaitsev, digging the hole deeper for the Leafs. Select a straight up win for the Sens, with a healthy +120 payout.

Bruins at Canadiens – Bet Boston SU (-170)

The Boston Bruins continue to rise in the eastern conference standings, collecting yet another win during their 5-2 beatdown of the Islanders on Thursday. Montreal’s the odd team out on Hockey Day In Canada, playing against an American team which has their number. The Bruins have earned four consecutive wins over the Habs, including a pair of puckline victories. Most recent was a 4-1 destruction of the Canadiens at TD Garden. Montreal will continue to reel on this hockey holiday, while the Bruins will continue their Atlantic ascent.

Canucks at Oilers – Bet Oilers SU (-185)

Edmonton’s beaten the Canucks in four of their last six meetings, although Vancouver defeated the Oilers 3-2 the last time they met in October 2017. For this meeting, the Canucks will still be without Bo Horvat, which changes the calculus of this matchup. Vancouver’s missed Horvat horribly, dropping out of the playoff race as he mends from a cracked ankle. However, both teams have won two in a row, with the Canucks doing so against stiffer competition. Pick Edmonton because they have home advantage and a healthy lineup.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Boston Bruins Beat Puckline Against Montreal Canadiens (-1.5, +190)

Montreal plays better hockey on home ice, which reduces the odds of another Boston Bruins puckline win. This raises the puckline to +190, a great payout for wagering Boston’s recent stretch of fantastic hockey. The Bruins have nine puckline victories over the past five weeks, impressive by any standards. IF you’re looking to improve on a straight up line of -170, choose Boston’s puckline.
