NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Maple Leafs Ground Losing Streak Against Flyers?

Toronto’s endured bumps and bruises to begin 2018, losing three in a row by one goal. The Maple Leafs are 2-4 this year, which doesn’t reflect their quality of play. Philly will present a challenge to Toronto, especially if the Leafs allow their defensive structure to lapse.

The Ottawa Senators will face one of the best teams in the western conference this evening, as the Blues complete their road trip across Ontario in Kanata. St. Louis have won four in a row at the Canadian Tire Centre, including a 6-0 blowout the last time the Blues were in town. Ottawa will need to play some of their best hockey to avoid a fifth straight home loss against St. Louis.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Blues at Senators – Bet St. Louis SU (-145)

St. Louis and Ottawa have a strange matchup history, with each team winning their last four games on the other’s home ice. That trend appears ready to continue this evening. The Blues play well on the road this season, recently beating Toronto at the Air Canada Centre. The Ottawa Senators return after their NHL-mandated week off, increasing the risk of rust. Before the break, the Sens were a respectable 4-4-2, with their previous win also taking place in Toronto. As such, select a straight up win for St. Louis.

Maple Leafs at Flyers – Bet Toronto (-115)

The Toronto Maple Leafs hit the road after losing three in a row, all of them one-goal losses. While some would hit the panic button early, coach Babcock knows his team isn’t playing terrible hockey. Tonight’s matchup won’t be easy, because Philadelphia’s beaten the Leafs 4-2 twice this year. Philly will play their backup goalie, Michal Neuvirth, which gives the Buds a better chance of winning. Neuvirth has a .902 SV% against the Leafs, while Andersen has a 6-2 record against the Flyers, including a tidy .916 SV%.

Coyotes at Predators – Bet Coyotes SU (+185)

Nashville’s lineup continues to accrue injuries, with Ryan Johansen potentially joining Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson on the sidelines. This represents their entire top line and the majority of production for the Predators. Arizona’s improved a bit to begin 2018, including a 3-2 overtime victory against Nashville on January 4th. The Coyotes have won four of their past six games against the Predators, one of the few teams which seem to give Nashville problems. Wager on the Coyotes moneyline, with a potential payout of +185.

Penguins at Kings – Bet Los Angeles SU (-125)

Los Angeles has won four straight games against the Penguins, with their last three meetings proceeding to overtime. This evening, Pittsburgh will be on the wrong end of a schedule loss after losing 5-3 to the Anaheim Ducks. Playing two games in two days on the road is tough for the best of franchises, made more difficult because the Penguins will play backup goalie Tristan Jarry. Expect a Los Angeles win based on the lack of rest for Pittsburgh, not because the Kings are playing well.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Los Angeles Kings Beat Puckline Against Pittsburgh Penguins (-1.5, +225)

In October, the Penguins lost 10-1 against Chicago, 7-1 against the Lightning, and 7-1 against the Jets, with all three blowouts on the road with less than a day rest. Pittsburgh’s 1-6 this year during this scenario, suggesting a significant advantage for the Kings. Of course, the reason to risk the puckline is the sweet +225 payout, compared to the -125 line for the straight up Kings win.
