Will Flames Forge Statement Win Over Tampa?

Elite scoring, a deep defense and a battle-tested goalie; the Calgary Flames contain the elements needed for a deep playoff run in their roster. The Flames have played well enough to maintain great playoff positioning, but remain a rung below the elite of the western conference.

A win against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Florida would lift Calgary to third place in the Pacific Division, while acting as the type of statement win which would announce the Flames as a serious contender in the second half of the regular season. Calgary plays well against the Lightning over the past couple of years, forcing Tampa Bay to pay full attention to the ambitious Flames.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Flames at Lightning – Bet Calgary Puckline (+1.5, -160)

Tampa Bay’s been showing signs of mortality over the past couple of weeks, losing to the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens. Despite this setback, the Lightning maintain a 7-2-1 mark over their last ten, staying afloat as first overall in the NHL. The Calgary Flames have a four-game win streak, and have beaten Tampa in two of their last three meetings, including a 3-2 victory the last time they met. Calgary also plays well on the road, increasing the odds of an upset.

Tampa should be considered the favorite to win this game, but a victory for either team is uncertain. If you’re looking to maximize your odds of a return, bet on Calgary beating the underdog puckline.

Blue Jackets at Sabres – Bet Columbus SU (-155)

Alexander Wennberg activated back into the Blue Jackets lineup, which will boost their fleet of top-six forwards. A healthier Columbus lineup isn’t what the Sabres needed this evening. Buffalo’s won one game in their last six meetings against the Jackets, including a 5-1 loss in October and a 3-2 defeat in November. Since the Sabres have lost five in a row and eight of their last ten, there’s little chance that Buffalo will play well enough to defeat a Blue Jackets squad which continues to win without key personnel.

Hurricanes at Capitals – Bet Washington SU (-150)

Washington begins 2018 on fire, winning five in a row and seven of their last ten. Carolina’s lost two in a row after an impressive shutout over the Penguins. The Hurricanes defense has fallen apart, allowing 12 goals in losses against the Bruins and Lightning. Washington’s beaten Carolina four times in a row, including a 5-4 victory in Raleigh. Carolina’s much improved, but they still suffer bouts of youthful inconsistency. The Capitals have one of the best home records in the eastern conference, pointing to a win on Thursday night.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night:

Columbus Blue Jackets Beat Puckline Against Buffalo Sabres (-1.5, +180)

Buffalo’s been beaten by three or more goals in three of their last four games. Columbus beat the puckline in three of their last five wins against the Sabres. This doesn’t mean that Columbus will definitely destroy Buffalo, but historical trends hint at better-than-average odds of a two-goal victory for the Blue Jackets. As always, the reason to take the plunge is the +180 payout for betting on a good team outplaying one of the worst teams in the NHL.
