NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Maple Leafs Catch Up With Lightning?

From a non-playoff team to a contender in the space of a year, the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to grow their young, talented squad into an eastern powerhouse. A key, regular season match against Tampa Bay provides an opportunity for Toronto to gauge their progress.

One of the Leafs recent losses took place against another Atlantic Division rival when they dropped a 4-1 decision against the Boston Bruins. Toronto features similar goaltending and forward depth compared to the Lightning and the Bruins, but the defensive corps require improvement before Toronto moves into the upper echelon of the NHL.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Lightning at Maple Leafs – Bet Tampa Bay SU (-110)

The Toronto Maple Leafs maintained a top-three position in the Atlantic Division during a rough spot prior to the all-star break. In fact, the Leafs have become the hottest team in the league, winning eight of their last ten, including a three-game victory streak. This evening will be one of their biggest challenges of the season, facing off against the top team in the NHL. Tampa Bay’s won seven of their last ten against the Leafs, including a 2-0 shutout on January 2nd.

Toronto’s improved as of late, but the Lightning have the deepest, most consistent lineup in the NHL. A straight up victory for the Lightning will be the most likely result.

Blackhawks at Coyotes – Bet Chicago SU (-145)

Arizona started the season so badly that they didn’t need to worry about winning once mid-November rolled around. The Coyotes have been hanging out at the bottom of the western conference for the entire season, serving as cannon fodder for most NHL franchises. On Monday, the Blackhawks travel to the desert for a pair of free points after losing three in a row. Chicago has beaten the Coyotes nine times in a row, and there’s no reason why they can’t increase this streak to ten.

Panthers at Oilers – Bet Florida SU (+125)

The Edmonton Oilers have lost three in a row after Connor McDavid’s four goal outburst. Hopefully, the Oilers will stop pretending that they’re competitive and focus on somehow fixing depth issues, which includes problems at every position. Florida isn’t a fantastic team, but they certainly make more of their lineup than the struggling Oilers. Edmonton typically fares well against the Panthers, winning eight of their last ten, but Florida’s simply better than the Oilers this year. Despite the road disadvantage, wager on the Panthers for a +125 moneyline upset.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night

Chicago Blackhawks Beat Puckline Against Arizona Coyotes (-1.5, +215)

Chicago hasn’t played well this season, losing eight of their last ten games and three in a row, plunging ten points out of a playoff spot. Frankly, a loss to the Coyotes would be an embarrassment for the Blackhawks, who absolutely need these points to maintain a semblance of post season hope. Since Chicago’s defeated the Coyotes by two or more goals in four of their last five meetings, selecting a puckline win for Chicago at +215 will be worth the risk.
