NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight

Will Montreal Win Without Weber?

The Canadiens have already dealt with plenty of adversity this year, enduring an ice cold start to the season, which included an injury to Carey Price. When the Price was right again, the former Vezina winner lead Montreal back into the Atlantic Division playoff race.

Calgary has the good fortune of playing against the Habs without Shea Weber, one of the best defenseman in the NHL. The Flames have been heating up over their past couple of outings, after a difficult week of losses against the Predators, Sharks and Wild. A pre-Christmas win would help them inch closer to the top of the western conference.

NHL Lines: Lighting The Lamp

Canadiens at Flames – Bet Calgary SU (-135)

Embarking on a holiday road trip without stalwart Shea Weber isn’t the ideal way to finish the 2017 calendar. Other than Carey Price, Weber’s the most valuable player on the Canadiens  roster, organizing the defensive crew while contributing key points on the power play. Trading for Weber was a win-now move, and Montreal likely won’t compete well against Calgary without Shea in the lineup. The Flames have taken four of their last six against the Habs, which makes a straight up win at -135 a good value.

Flyers at Sabres – Bet Flyers Puckline (-1.5, +230)

Philadelphia was plummeting towards to Sabres neighborhood of the eastern conference standings, in the zone reserved for lottery-bound teams. A sudden six-game win streak - powered by Brian Elliott’s goaltending and his consecutive appearances as an NHL star of the week - allowed the Flyers to regain momentum towards the playoffs. Buffalo’s by far the worst in the east, and the Flyers have won four of the last five against the Sabres, so scoop Philly’s puckline for a decent shot at a sweet +230 payout.

Wild at Panthers – Bet Wild SU (-110)

Perhaps the oddsmakers made a mistake for this matchup. Minnesota and Florida both feature a -110 line for a straight up victory, despite the fact that the Wild are a superior team. Both squads will miss their starting goaltender, and the Wild have beaten the Panthers in six of their last seven meetings with the Floridian hockey squad. Minnesota’s the puckline underdog, so you’ll need to select a straight up win to profit. If the numbers switch to make Minny the puckline favorites, you’ll be able to increase your winnings.

Capitals at Coyotes – Bet Washington SU (-175)

Washington has been one of the best teams in the eastern conference over the past couple of weeks, and they’ll look to continue their run with an easy win against the Arizona Coyotes, who have the worst record in the NHL. The Capitals do not play nearly as well on the road compared to their quality at home, while the Coyotes don’t lose as badly at home as they do on the road. For this reason, you may wish to mitigate risk by selecting Washington’s straight up.

Dirty Dangle Of The Night

Washington Capitals Beat Puckline Against Arizona Coyotes (-1.5, +205)

If you’re amenable to additional risk on Friday night, go ahead and pick the puckline for the Washington Capitals. Washington’s clearly the superior team, and any result other than a victory will be considered a hefty upset. A two-goal win may not be the best bet against a plucky Coyotes squad playing at home, but a +205 line for the puckline represents an enticing target for puckhead bettors.
