NHL Picks & Pucklines Tonight - Vegas Crown Kings

Jets, Pens & Vegas Seek Series Control

If anyone doubted that the Pittsburgh Penguins were among the favorites during the 2018 Stanley Cup playoffs, their 7-0 drubbing of the Philadelphia Flyers served notice across the league. The Pens have a relatively easy path to the conference finals compared to eastern heavyweights like the Bruins and the Lightning. Tampa and Boston must overcome the Atlantic Division gauntlet, while the Metro side of the bracket features less intense competition.

Winnipeg looks like a safe bet to advance after leaping the first hurdle of their playoff odyssey. The Jets earned their first-ever playoff win the hard way, with a comeback victory over the scrappy Wild. Without the pressure of breaking a long franchise playoff slump, Winnipeg should begin to fly on ice, utilizing their impressive skill and speed to dominate an injured Minnesota club.

Vegas survived their first playoff game with a gut-check victory over the Kings. The Golden Knights remained steady throughout their shutout win while Drew Doughty lost his cool, a move which could possible cost the Kings this series. Vegas look like strong favorites after Doughty received a suspension, likely to sweep their first two playoff games at home.

NHL Playoffs - Best Picks & Pucklines

Flyers at Penguins – Bet Pittsburgh Puckline (-1.5, +130)

Sure, Philly’s goaltending was inadequate, but the Flyers defense allowed so many scoring chances that the blame spreads across the entire team. Pittsburgh showed why they’re top contenders for a third consecutive Stanley Cup, including a hat trick for Sidney Crosby. The Flyers will return to Brian Elliott in net again, which doesn’t bode well for Philadelphia. Pittsburgh probably won’t score seven goals again, but another puckline win appears inevitable against Philly’s weak defense and goaltending.

Wild at Jets – Bet Winnipeg Puckline (-1.5, +135)

Minnesota put up a superb fight against the Winnipeg Jets in game one, injecting a scare into Manitoba faithful. Still, the Jets turned on the afterburners to pull off an impressive comeback victory that never felt in doubt. Devan Dubnyk stole goals from Winnipeg all night, the only reason the Wild were competitive. Vets like Cullen and Parise were surprisingly dangerous for Minnesota, but the Jets speed, size and skill advantage were glaring in the opener.

Expect Winnipeg to play pressure-free hockey after winning the first playoff game in the history of the franchise. A puckline win for the Jets should ensue.

Kings at Golden Knights – Bet Vegas SU (-160)

Drew Doughty lost his cool during game one, earning a one-game suspension for headhunting William Carrier during the Golden Knights 1-0 shutout. Los Angeles needs Drew to patrol the blue line – he lead the league with an average of 26:50 TOI, one of the main reasons the Kings returned to the playoffs in 2018. Vegas’ defense proved impenetrable in game one while Marc-Andre Fleury was perfect. The Kings odds of evening the series drops drastically without their minute-munching defenseman. Vegas should emerge with a 2-0 series lead tonight.
