NHL Futures: Week 14 Odds Update

Stanley Cup Championship Week 14 Contenders

Closing out 2017, like they have so many times over the past three months, Tampa Bay posted a victory on New Year's Eve. The 5-0 win, on the road in Columbus, moves the Lightning to 28-8-2 and gives them a four-point lead on Vegas for first overall in the NHL. Tampa Bay went 11-2-0 in December and they outscored their opponents by a 54-28 combined count helping the Bolts build on their league best +51 GF/GA differential. Steve Stamkos & Crew now face their toughest run of the season as 12 of their next 15 contests are the road beginning with a game in Toronto tonight.

Jockeying for positioning behind the Bolts, seven teams are separated by just four points. Having played the least amount of games, the Golden Knights lead the way with 54 points. Vegas is also running hot as they matched Tampa Bay with an 11-2-0 December record and they've won seven straight games. The Knights who are just 10-7-1 as visitors this season, also face a lot of travel as they will play 12 of their next 17 games away from Sin City. No one else closed out 2017 very hot as a three-game winning streak by third place Winnipeg is the longest streak amongst the leaders.

Heading Into Week 14: Bet365 still has the Vegas Golden Knights Cup price at a lofty +1500.

01/01/18 Eastern Conference Championship Odds Update

Despite their torrent run, bookmakers at Bet365 and SportsInteraction both bumped up the Bolts (+300) Eastern Conference Championship price while Bodog (+300 to +275) dropped them slightly and Betway left them unchanged. That is still far and away top chalk though as Toronto, with a +450 line at Betway, is the second favorite. Back in familiar regular season territory, Washington had a nice run in December (10-2-2) and the Capitals now sit in second place overall in the East.

New Jersey fell to third but the Devils (22-10-6) have two games in hand on the Capitals (24-13-3) who they trail by one point in the Metropolitan Division. The Caps (+900) East winning best price is available at Bodog while the Devils best value (+1200) can be found at Betway. Boston continues to climb in the standings, they are 6-0-2 over their last eight games, as the Bruins and Maple Leafs round out the top five with 48 points. We still can't buy the Devils as Eastern Conference Champs.

Week 14 East Warnings: Carolina and Florida are on a slight roll but they should still be avoided. Columbus is on a 3-5-2 skid and were outscored by a 41-27 margin - including two 7-2 tumbles.

01/01/18 Western Conference Championship Odds Update

Hands up if you had Vegas and Winnipeg sitting one-two in the Western Conference heading into January. Anyone? The Golden Knights, second best with a 3.51 goals per game average, have two games in hand and a two point lead on the Jets who sit fourth with 3.33 GPG. We want to see how the Knights handle their adventures between now and February 8, as destinations include north to Edmonton, east to Washington D.C. and south to Sunrise, FL. with some Midwest travel mixed in.

Two back of Vegas (+26), Winnipeg is tied with Los Angeles with a +24 GF/GA mark in the West. Over the past 16 seasons, teams at +24 or higher have all made the playoffs. The Kings (51 PTS) are one point behind the Jets (52) and tied with Nashville in third. The Predators will be without leading scorer Filip Forsberg for at least three games. Edmonton made a slight move, with four straight wins, but closed out 2017 with two losses and a tie. Will the Oilers ever pull it together?

Week 14 West Warnings: In the Pacific Division, Calgary remains inconsistent as the Flames went 5-6-3 in December. Following a 2-8-1 slide; a once promising season has vanished in Vancouver.
