Streaking NHL Canadian Teams Hit The Ice On Wednesday
Montreal Aims To Keep Winning With Price Back
The Montreal Canadiens have won two in a row entering play tonight and both those wins coincide with the return of G Carey Price. Not only have the Canadiens won, but the fact that the scores were 3-0 and 3-1 shows just how valuable Price is to this team (if you didn't already know). Montreal is a defence-first squad that is at their best when they are winning games with 3-1, 3-0, or even 3-2 scores, and Ottawa is a team that hasn't scored 3 or more goals during their current six-game losing streak.
With Price's return, Montreal's winning ways have returned and bettors are taking notice. The odds for tonight's game opened up with Montreal being a -135 favourite, but after plenty of early morning and afternoon support, the line currently sits in the -155 to -160 range. Right now it looks like everyone wants a piece of the Habs and to fade the Senators and this game looks to be the perfect opportunity to do both. But is it?
Ottawa Needs A Win In The Worst Way
The Senators haven't won on North American soil since November 2nd, and this current six-game losing streak they are on has really started to weigh on the team. Bettors can't fade this team quick enough, and as they start a very tough seven-game road trip tonight, something's going to give on this road trip. Either the Senators find a way to win a few games to turn this around, or the losing continues in a big way and this season ends up being one that Ottawa fans would rather forget sooner than later.
However, with the betting odds now hovering around +140 for the Senators on the ML, a win against a hated rival that's rolling could be exactly what the Sens need to get back on track. With the way this line has moved already, there is much more value to back the Sens now, especially if you prefer the contrarian mode of handicapping. All I'm saying is don't be surprised to see Ottawa come out with the win tonight. After all, they've got a 8-3 loss to Montreal from earlier this year to avenge tonight.
Jets Hoping To Beat Up The Hapless Avalanche Tonight
Winnipeg is 7-3 SU during their last 10 games and have a road game in Colorado tonight. The Jets have quickly become Canada's best team in the Western Conference this year with some great play during the first two months, but this is a team that's been marred by mediocrity the past few years. Cynical Jets fans are just waiting for this squad to fall into a prolonged slump, but the majority of bettors continue to back them hand over fist.
Winnipeg is attracting more than 80% of the ML wagers tonight, but yet the line has stayed pretty steady at -130. That tends to be a warning sign for me that following the masses may not be in the best interest of my bankroll, even if it is the lowly Colorado Avalanche across from them on the ice. It's tough to go against the Jets at the moment given how well they are playing, but who knows, maybe those cynical Jets fans are on to something.
