With a possible Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Championship 3-Peat looming on the horizon, we are getting amped up for the 2017-18 National Hockey League season. The Toronto Maple Leafs (1947–49 / 1962-64) Montreal Canadiens (1956-60 / 1976-79) and New York Islanders (1980-83) are the only teams that own three straight NHL titles. Looking at the CSB Stanley Cup futures board - Sidney Crosby & Crew are favorites turn the triple. Prior to that though, today we look at an early prop featuring two controversial players that switched teams during the NHL offseason.

Drouin vs Radulov Point Scoring Prop Odds

Projected NHL stars, who have had some tumultuous times during their careers, are getting some love at SportsInteraction. Jonathan Drouin, who spent three years in Tampa Bay, and Alexander Radulov, who is on his third team over four NHL seasons, are both looking for a fresh start with new teams. Drouin received his requested ticket out of Florida as he's moved to hockey hot-bed Montreal. Radulov played two seasons in Nashville, then eight years in the Kontinental Hockey League and one season for the Canadiens, before inking a five-year deal with the Dallas Stars.

Jonathan Drouin +100  Sports Interaction (SIA) Alexander Radulov -140

As illustrated by the Drouin vs Radulov SIA point scoring prop odds above - Alexander Radulov is projected to have a more point prosperous NHL 2017-18 season than Jonathan Drouin. Lone Star State puck fans are certainly hoping that's the case after Dallas crashed and burned as one of the preseason Stanley Cup favorites (12-1 odds) last season. Not only did the Stars not make the NHL Finals – they missed the playoffs altogether. It wasn’t even close as Dallas finished with a 79 points which was 15 points behind Nashville who earned the second Wild Card entry into the postseason.

Over in the Eastern Conference - Tampa Bay missed the NHL Playoff party for the first time in four seasons. The Lightning were much closer than the Stars though as they finished with 94 points (tie New York Islanders ) just behind the Toronto Maple Leafs who claimed the eighth seed in the East with 95 points. While Jonathan Drouin has been a major distraction to GM Steve Yzerman's overall plan, he posted 53 points last season good for the Bolts third highest total behind Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman. It will be interesting to see how Drouin performs in puck crazy Montreal.

      Alexander Radulov (Dallas Stars)

      My Team's Next MatchDallas Stars

Given that he has only played 254 games in the NHL, some mistake Alexander Radulov as a young rising star. The facts however show that he is indeed a fire on ice veteran. Radulov was born on July 5, 1986, in Nizhny Tagil, Russia, and began his career in North America with the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in 2004. Radulov lit up the QMJHL and he owns several Remparts records including most points (152), goals (61) and assists (91) in a single season. Winning the MVP Award, Radulov helped the Remparts claim the 2016 Memorial Cup Championship.

Following a short stint with the American Hockey League Milwaukee Admirals, Radulov made his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators on October 21, 2006. A nasty contract dispute would arise though and Radulov left Nashville after his second season and he played for Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the KHL for four years. Following a brief nine-game return to Nashville, to close out the 2011-12 season, Radulov headed back to the KHL (CSKA Moscow) after the Predators declined to extend his contract. During 483 KHL games, Radulov posted 581 points with 193 goals and 388 assists.

Radulov returned to the NHL in 2016, as an unrestricted free agent, and signed a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens. Although his scoring prowess dropped, Radulov was second behind Max Pacioretty (67 PTS) with 54 points and he led the Habitants with seven points in the playoffs during the 2016-17 NHL season. After failing to reach a contract extension with the Canadiens, Radulov bagged a five-year deal ($31.25 million) with the Dallas Stars. Joining super-stars Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn – Radulov has an opportunity to shine with the Stars in the Lone Star State.

      Jonathan Drouin (Montreal Canadiens)

Much younger than Radulov, Jonathan Drouin was born on March 28, 1995, in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Quebec. A star in the making, Drouhin was the second overall pick during the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft by the Halifax Mooseheads. After two brief stints with the AAA Midget Lac St. Louis Lions Drouin joined the Mooseheads in 2011 and he went on to post 256 points (82 G and 174 A) over just 151 games during three seasons in Halifax. Drouin was named the CHL Player of the Year while helping the Mooseheads claim the QMJHL President Cup and the Memorial Cup in 2013.

Drouin was on the Canadian Crew that won the Gold Medal during the 2012 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament as he recorded five assists during five games. Following the 2012-13 season, Drouin won the Michel Brière Memorial Trophy as QMJHL Most Valuable Player and his stock was running high. Chosen behind Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado) and Aleksander Barkov (Florida) Drouin was the third overall selection by Tampa Bay during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. After being a 2013 training camp cut, Drouin returned to Halifax for the 2013-14 season and was once again the QMJHL MVP.

After playing two games with the AHL Syracuse Crunch the Lightning called Drouin up to the grand stage and he posted 32 points over 70 regular season games during the 2014-15 NHL season. The 2015-16 campaign was rocky as Drouin played 21 games for the Lightning and 17 for Syracuse. During that run, Drouin was suspended by Tampa Bay after refusing his demotion to the AHL and trade rumours swirled around him. After posting 53 points, over 73 games during the 2016-17 season, Drouin received the ‘fresh start’ he wanted as he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens.

Power Heavily Favored To Go First Overall In NHL Entry Draft

While the 2021 NHL entry draft isn't viewed as being as deep as the 2020 class, as with Alexis Lafreniere last season, there appears to be a consensus No. 1 - Michigan's Owen Power. The Wolverines freshman defenceman didn't look out of place playing with the men at the IIHF world championship, winning a gold medal skating for Canada, playing in the top defensive pairing. Power is almost certainly going to the Buffalo Sabres.
