Vosburgh Invitational 2017 Predictions
Vosburgh Invitational 2017
With much still to be decided before the Breeders' Cup November 3 and 4 at Del Mar, September 30 figures to be an important date in the horse racing world with the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic also at Belmont Park and the Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita among the other automatic BC qualifiers. The Vosburgh will go as race 7 and is one of four graded stakes events on the Belmont card, providing an enticing all-stakes pick 4 for bettors around the country.
A quick look at the numbers confirms that this year's Vosburgh is a serious race. El Deal recorded a 112 Beyer in his last start and the upstart Mr. Crow Beyered a 109 two starts ago. The bulk of the wagering action figures to settle on those two runners with Takaful a clear third choice.
The early pace scenario in this race figures to dictate the outcome as El Deal and Takaful will likely knock heads early along with the swift Green Grattto. If either El Deal or Takaful are able to shake loose from the opening bell, their propspects will improve immensely. The veteran El Deal looks a shade quicker than his primary pace rivals, but will certainly have to hustle to make the front.
The three year-old Mr. Crow has been sensational in three lifetime starts, winning his last two with ease after getting beat a neck in his debut. What he gives away in experience, he appears to make up for with prodigious talent. The Todd Pletcher trainee is certainly stepping into much deeper waters here, but has stellar Beyer Speed figures (99, 109, 104) and showed the ability to sit behind horses and rally in his last start. That commodity alone makes him a solid play in this race and the only unappealing thing about Mr. Crow will be the short price.
Among the other contenders, Stallwalkin' Dude is a hard-knocking fan favorite who has shown a preference for the Belmont surface throughout his career finishing in the money in 10 of 12 races over "Big Sandy." His late-charging style may play well against this field and a horse this battle-tested is never without a shot. The price should also be right for bettors looking to take a stand against Mr. Crow and El Deal.

Breeders' Cup Qualifiers Update
While the winner of the Vosburgh will be off to the Breeders' Cup Sprint, it would be no surprise to see two or three runners from this field ship west to Del Mar in November. Reigning sprint champion Drefong blitzed the Forego Field August 26 at Saratoga and appears primed to defend his title. Roy H is another west coast horse among the frontrunners in the Sprint division.
