Super Bowl 2018 Odds: Eagles Soaring Into Third Title Clash

Super Bowl 2018 Odds: Eagles Soaring Into Third Title Clash

Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl 52 Opening Lines

Three point pups at home against Atlanta during Divisional Week, and again vs Minnesota on NFC Championship Sunday; it’s not a surprise to see the Eagles as Super Bowl LII underdogs. While Philly and their fans have happy played along - being “disrespected dogs” at home is way different than being posted as pups at a neutral site. Top CSB ranked bookmakers cover SB LII from every angle.

Bet on Super Bowl LII at Sports Interaction

Soaring into their first NFL title fight, Super Bowl 15 in 1981, the Eagles were +3 point favorites but had their wings clipped during a 27-10 Oakland Raiders victory. Following a 23-year drought Philly played in their second NFL Championship game but dropped a 24-21 decision to New England during Super Bowl 39 in 2005. Philadelphia failed to cover as favorites vs Oakland but snuck under the +7 line as pups in the match vs the Pats and Tom Brady backers had to feel a slightly jilted.

SB XXXIX was not as close as the final score indicates as the Eagles trailed New England 24-10 midway through the fourth quarter. Philly spread bettors earned a backdoor cover thanks to a QB Donavan McNabb 30-yard TD strike to WR Greg Lewis with 1:55 left in the game. The Pats defence was the main storyline as they picked off three passes and sacked McNabb four times. These teams are strangers in a strange land as neither has ever played inside sparkling new U.S. Bank Stadium.

Tom Brady last visited Minneapolis in 2014 while Nick Foles was last in the Land of 10,000 Lakes back in 2013. Though ancient history, both of those games were vs the Vikings and the Patriots won 30-7 outdoors at TCF Bank Stadium while the Eagles lost 48-30 under the dome at Mall of America Field. The NFC is designated home team but don’t expect much love for the Eagles who snuffed out Minnesota's Super Bowl playing/hosting dream during the 2018 NFC Championship.

State Of Mind: Will Philly Pup Pride continue at a possibly hostile U.S. Bank Stadium?

Eagles Leave Their Home Nest - Paying With House Money

We know there are some, but hands up if your thought Philadelphia stood a punchers chance of winning the Super Bowl after losing MVP candidate QB Carson Wentz in their Week 14 game vs the LA Rams? Hands are sparse and none of them belong to bookmakers as the Eagles Super Bowl futures crashed from (+450) in Week 13 to (+1200) in Week 15. Hoping Nick Foles would regain his 2013 form (27 TD 2 INT) we stuck with Philadelphia as our NFL Championship pick from the NFC.

Punked by pitfalls, we were leery about joining the Eagles bandwagon but Philly didn't really skip a beat after losing several key players. That includes CB Ronald Darby and PK Caleb Sturgis in Week 1 and Swiss Army Knife RB/WR Darren Sproles in Week 3. Feeling the injury bug had moved on - we bought the Eagles (+800) NFC title odds prior to Week 6 and their (+850) SB LII line before Week 7. Philadelphia then lost All Pro OT Jason Peters in Week 7 to drape some doubt on both selections.

Sporting the longest name in football, second-year OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai stepped in and has done a decent job in relief. That includes shutting down Vikings stud DE Everson Griffen last week. Griffen had 13 QB sacks (NFL 4th best) but Vaitai held him to zero pressures and sacks. Viewed by some as the weak link on the Eagles fairly stout O-Line, that kind of play is good news. Still, with all they have overcome, the Eagles are playing with house money and they will come out flying.

NFC vs AFC: The NFC holds a slim 26-25 SB Series lead on the AFC who have won the last three.

Playing With Dog Pride - Castoff Players Have Stepped Up

Some key players have not hung their hats in the City of Brotherly Love for very long. There are castoffs and raw rookies, plus a few players that went in search of greener pastures. Running backs Jay Ajayi and Rex Burkhead, plus wide receiver Torrey Smith certainly fit the castoff mode as they arrived from Miami, New England and San Francisco respectively. RB Corey Clement, though still not getting a ton of touches, has been good during his rookie year with 444 total yards and six TD.

At this point though, none shine brighter than Foles who was with the Eagles for three years from 2012 to 2014. He was traded and spent a season in St. Louis before starting one game in Kansas who cut him loose after the 2016 campaign Returning to Philadelphia, as a backup to Wentz, St. Nick stayed patient and regained the starters reigns in Week 15. Prior to Championship Sunday, Foles was mediocre but he lit up the Vikings top defense with 352 PYD and 3 TD passes.

While the Eagles Brass is probably breathing a sigh of relief, and the team has rallied around him, the jury is still out on how effective Foles will be on the bright Super Bowl stage. The underrated New England defense has performed well against Titans QB Marcus Mariota (8 sacks) and Jaguars pivot Blake Bortles during the past two playoff weeks. We have to believe, that with two weeks to prepared and plenty of film, Mad Scientist Bill Belichick will have some tricks in store for Foles.

Strangers In The Night: PHI and NEP have battled once over the past six seasons (2015).

Canadians Easily Soar With The Eagles Online

Not an endorsement to bet on Philadelphia yet - Canuck 'Cappers can easily soar with the Eagles if they choose to do so. Since local lottery kiosks in Canada ban single game wagers, they force at least a two selection parlay on every ticket purchased, there is never a better time to jump online to check out the veteran bookmakers in our Top Five table below. All of those sportsbooks offer easy sign up, secure banking, plus player rewards that add girth to their client's betting bankroll.

That doesn't mean we don't enjoy parlay wagers as we post and play them often. Taking less than ideal odds and prices, from a bookie looking to slant the table in their favour, is not prudent sports betting. From the comfort of home, or on the fly with popular mobile devices, Bet365 delivers a solid parlay package. Wagering windows are opened 24/7 so bets can be placed anytime. Once contests begin, LIVE in-game 'capping is fast, furious and can be profitable for those following the flow of the fight. Cast as David vs Goliath by some - we are not rushing to back either side yet.

SB LII Early Odds Lean: Wow. It is difficult to turn away from the G.O.A.T & Crew. We hope TE Rob Gronkowski is steadily recovering and only plays if he is 100% healthy. A brain is a terrible thing to waste. Belichick, Brady, Gronk & Crew are a very formidable foe. Our definitive selections will be posted here on or before 03/02/18. Until then, check out well-researched CSB articles with predictions that feature viable prop betting options. The Quick Link Bar above, plus our Facebook and Twitter sites, will deliver free picks regularly - until the NEP vs PHI Final Fight is upon us.
